  12. Having had a few mechanical failures I feel your pain...but somehow I think that is part of the rodding journey we travel on, it's what we do with the situation that counts.

After reading through 4 pages I'm 'doubly dumfounded' that no one has mentioned how awesome it is that you spotted that hemi intake on the shelf (although the injected motor would offer sufficient reasoning for curiousity). That's a sweet setup by the way.

    Cheers,

The kids and I are leaving Carleton headed to Middletown Thursday if it helps. Glad to help if you need it. I assume that didn't happen in the tight ass construction in downtown Dayton...I would've freaked.

Denise, I'm sorry to read/hear of your breakdown and the outright incompetence and stupidity you encountered in Detroit at DTS. And I and all the other metro ATL H.A.M.B.ers were vey dissapointed that you weren't there with us yesterday.
But we are all very glad you were in such good hands there in Dayton.
I do believe that as much as you drive Big Olds that in the near future you should consider having a rear axle housing and gear assembly built by someone who understands about rear housing warpage from bracket welding, and how to prevent most of it and correct the rest. Axle bearings and carrier bearings will appreciate it and last much longer.
Best of luck in your negotiations with DTS.
    Dave

Hey Dennise, At work this morning I read your entire thread and I was bummed for you but this bummed me out the most "Words can’t even begin to explain how bummed I am. I’m disappointed that I’m not going to make the show BUT what I’m the most bummed about is all the other events with my pals that I had planned. For me, the people are the most important factor in this hobby and missing them and the great times we had planned to spend together this week is just heartbreaking for me."
I didn't like reading that you were so disappointed.
I'm glad that you have the network of friends that can get Big Olds back on the road.

Damn doll, that really bites. I tell you what, though, you've had one helluva year in Big Olds. I mean, I can NOT forget that smile that took forever to disspear, after you picked up Big Olds in Austin after 'Fat-Lucky' got done with it. You have driven that thing more this year, than a lot of people do in five.
I know you've heard all the cliche's already, but my dad told me if ya ain't breakin' it, you ain't drivin' it much either. And by God, we built our stuff to drive, damnitt.
Anyway gal, I'll hoist one to Denise tonight - HAVE FUN.

I didn't know you could knock a hole in a rear end housing. Put one in an oil pan one time. Hope everything works out OK.

I did not get a chance to see Dave's toys. If they were in the shop area the door to where they are located was not open. Maybe this Saturday I'll get lucky and he'll have time to show me. I wanted to thank you again for calling and trying to help locate parts. I really appreciate your concern and thoughtfulness. If you're around on Saturday stop by the shop. I'm going to try to be there by noon to pick up Big Olds.

I got the grand tour by Spoons while we were waiting for word from Brian regarding parts. The Hemi intake was actually hidden behind a sliding door and I would not have seen it if Spoons didn't open the door. It's always nice when your friends know where the treasures are hidden.:D

Thanks bud, appreciate the offer. Looks like I'll be heading down Saturday morning for Dave's shop. I'll pick up Big Olds and head to Mike's place in TN. I could get my flight changed so I'll fly home from Nashville on Monday evening. Big Olds will be spending the winter in TN.

I broke down less then 1/2 mile north from where you are referring to:eek:

I have every confidence that the shop Big Olds is in right now will rebuild everything to perfection. As you can read from some of the responses here, everyone in the Dayton Ohio area speaks very, very highly of Dave Pleasent and his skills and talent.

Both axle housings were checked for straightness and trueness (is that a word?) and were fine. It was the axle and carrier that were the issue before and they were both replaced by DTS. The replaced axle is still fine but the carrier was toast and is now being replaced by a posi unit.:D

Thanks to everyone for their kind words. Makes me feel alittle better about the situation. The rest of the week is going to be pretty rough sitting at work knowing that I should have been in Florida but for one persons neglect.

No, they aren't. In fact, my first thought was if they pried on the hood like that to get it open, I'm surprised the bumper chrome wasn't damaged as well...

I missed the whole DTS post (if there was one). I always held them in high regards. This has me thinking again about just another shop with an over-inflated reputation and slick business cards. I assume they knew the history behind this car, no? Why someone wouldn't take 2 minutes to call the owner and ask about getting the hood open on a car like yours if they ran into trouble is beyond me. Customer service is dead I suppose. Wreck it, and deal with it later. On the other hand, did you tell them there was a "trick" to getting it open? [edit: I went back and re-read one of your responses, so I'll assume that you thought they had no reason to open your hood. Hindsight is 20/20 I guess]. I've had a couple hoods ruined because I forgot to mention to the people doing work there is a trick to closing it. But never opening it.

Anyways, glad you and Big Olds came out okay, everything is fixable. I'm sure Earl likes the company. ;)

Yes, I LOVE that venue. See ya there.

Not only does he like the company but I LOVE spending time with him in his shop and learning about body and paint work. I'm going to make my own drop down panel for under the dash of Big Olds AND learn how to install a Vintage air/heat/defrost unit. Should be a fun winter.

There is just nothing like being surrounded by good friends. Sorry to hear about Big Olds and that you did not make it to the Turkey Run, I know you were looking foward to it. Gary
