This is not a car question, sorry. But I was hoping that you guys/gals that live in Charlotte, NC could give me a heads up of the good and bad of the area. My daughter, who is a knock out, and is single is relocating there Dec 1st. She hooked a loft apartment right in the city near a park. Any words of wisdom you can offer would be appreciated .. you can email me at lea@stillrunnin since it is not car related. Thanks in advance. Lea
There are a lot of young ****s with tons of money. They are the ones to watch out for. They think they can buy and have the world. Have your daughter be very cautious. Charlotte is a great town for the young up-and-comers especially where she will be. Tell her to buy an old car and we can watch over her for you. (that's car related, huh?) Good Luck and be strong. ******Knuckles
is she coming here for school or job either one should have people that will tell here where to go and where to stay away from all cities and towns have bad and good places if you could email the police dept they would give you a record of how many calls in her area they have had in the past year. Hope all goes well for her if she has a problem with anything just send me an email. My daughter works a Wachovia down town.. RED
Lea, Lots of parks, but guessing a loft would be in an older building, might want to be careful of the nearby neighborhoods. Got an address? lived close to down town for about 15 years. Red, My daughter works for Wachovia, downtown, as does her husband. Small world. I usually just lurk and read a few articles. race an NTF. have a long roof, but all my spare coin goes into the race car for now. Live out by Mint Hill, now. Art
Lea, I have a cousin who lives in Charlotte. I went there in 2004 at our Studebaker Meet. My cousin took me downtown. The were lots of young people at night, not like downtown Richmond, and lots of restaurants. It was very lively, but I didn't see any trouble. I don't know about the living area.
tad I run a small shop next to metrolina fair grounds, don't have any spare change or race car give me a call and come by sometime.. 704-509-6397 you may like what you see. RED
You guys are SO great, I just found out the address today, she be on 7th street in Charlotte, and got really GOOD news, a 40 year old man she use to work with that is big boy just called her to tell her he was moving to Charlotte and got an apartment on 7th street, GUESS what it is in the same building as she is in. So at least she can call on someone if she break down, or what ever else could be a problem and know its OK, in the safe department. I can tell I will be in NC more this year. LOL
Yup, I was thrilled, going to try to get there on the 1st to lend a hand and maybe get to check out a business establishment that has been in operation since the 50's that one of the guys here told me about.
Better let me know when you get here!! I'll turn you on to the Small Block, the Big Block or the Full Blown Hemi burger at the Penguin. We'll see if you're man enough. ******Knuckles
and I can turn you on to a Colonoscopy after your done with the Penguin. We are talking at least a hour or two on the ****ter after you eat. Then again, I've been known not to be man enough though, right Ron?
I ate there twice so far and have not had a good experience either time. The only things that I heard were good and not painful afterwards were the Hummus and Veggie burger....but who wants to eat that?
All this coming from a non-meat-eating fruitcake!! Don't be slamming the place. You only ate there twice. Jeez!! I hate you Jeffery, I really hate you! Oh, you're not invited to go with us when he does call me. Jerk! ******Knuckles
I used to do the FBH on my lunch break at work! The last bite is the only bite you realize how big it was. Man, I miss Charlotte.
I lived in Charlotte/Concord for 3 years it was a great place. I am not a knock out though. I would have had a better time if I was I am sure. But, there are a lot of nascar fans too! Nascar garb is actually a style of dress in the area. Complete families with nascap pants, nascar jackets, nascar hats, nascar shirts, all on at the time everywhere they go. Tell her to get a good map - the roads just change names randomly and are not marked. You will just be driving and all of a sudden you are on a road with a different name and have not turned at all. Then there will be no more signs for at least the next 10 intersections. I would go somewhere and end up coming back a different way every time. Tell her to go to the Double Door - a good blues bar.
How more times should I go? I am sure that even Bojangles could be good at least once if I gave them a hundred tries.....no probably not. I think the place is alright, the Deep Fried pickles are ok and the Chicken fingers are good.....that is until it sets in and you realize that you may **** yourself before you can reach a bathroom. I love deep fried food as much as the next guy.....seriously. I mean, I liked the Chistoff's or where ever you took us the last time. Now those deep fried mushroom where just right. I am sick of everybody pumping this place up like it's the only cool place to eat in Charlotte. If your not a hipster, rockabilly homo stay away from it in the late hours. And don't bother going during lunch because the yuppies like to think they know what's up and mob the place during the week. All I am saying is that I miss the good ol' bars that are available in Buffalo. Ones that may not be the hippest place to be but by far put other restaurants to shame. Now, are you telling me that it's food is ****ing stellar? That's it, we are going and I am going to order a ton of **** and give you a full review.
Part time gig as a food critic...pretty soon you won't be able to fit in that T...ditto the part about always keeping a map in the car...road names change without warning and I have gotten lost a few times there too...overall really good people, good food and if you love being on a boat Lake Norman is awesome
Lea, Seventh St. is a pretty safe part of the city.Charlotte is kind of a yuppie town..lots of young people earning big bucks, many are/were with the banks as Charlotte is a major banking center. There are lots of McMansions here and the slums are rather hidden.Medical care is pretty good, roads and highways are only fair, but are certainly better than they used to be.There are, it seems, zillions of restaurants, mall shopping is a source of entertainment for many, while actual entertainment in the form of cultural events is quite plentiful.Tree pollen will turn your car yellow in the spring and will bring on allergies that you didn't even know you had.Cost of living is reasonable and $200k will buy a nice house .Lived here for 22 years and this is home.If you would like to give your daughter our telephone number as a "just-in-case ",private message me and I'll be happy to give you the info. Steve (V7)
I work near 7th and Graham and it pretty cool over there. Tell her to check out PHAT BURRITO, now that place has some good food but it's on the other end of Charlotte.
you guys make me want to visit for the fun of it, sounds like a nice place, I really appreciate all your help !!
Lea, 7th street is good, now. A lot of new construction and they tore down all the public housing. Cajun Queen is on 7th, just past kings Drive. Great Restaurant. Downtown has been yuppified in the last few years, so many good places, at least that's what I heard. I used to frequent the Penguin of old. The building is the same, but new management, new clientele, not for me. I lived in that neighborhood for 15 years and got yuppied out. I'll bet they had a four block party, when I sold my house. Red, I got your phone number and next time I venture into the big city, i'll give you a call. I am just outside Mint Hill, first house on brief Road past the city (?) limits. 704-573-9491. If ever you get out this way, give a call. Home most of the time. Art
I'll tell ya'll, the best food in my opinion is MAC's speed shop on South Blvd. If you want nostalgia try the Penguin, South 21, BBQ king, or Zack's...
Ahh the Belmont *******s. I actually work with Mike the lead singer. That dude is just plain old RAD.
7th street is fine... We just moved here this year and live in NODA area... Charlotte is great. But for sure the banker douchebags are the ones to worry about.
