I did a search for "Brackets" and I didn't find a specific thread on this subject. I'm really interested in creative home-made brackets or anything that is used to mount or join things together. Lets see your handiwork. The best ones have more than one function. I'll start it out with my cup holder on my drawing table. It only serves one function, but it's an important one!
Cool-this ought to be a good thread. If it gets down to coat hangers and duct tape, I'll have something to contribute.
Cool cup holder man! I'd tap it and put a little bleeder valve on the bottom to let the condensation out. Althought tipping it would work just as well. Wish I had something to contribute... I may need to whip something up real quick!
These aren't too exciting, but here's a few brackets I made. A fuel log bracket made out of 16 ga stainless (home-made fuel log and fuel lines too). A low-mount mini-alternator mount bracket out of steel plate and tube. And a throttle cable bracket for a tri-power setup I made out of aluminum.
I'm pretty proud of the brackets holding the cycle fender(s) on my '36 Fordillac...well, the one I have done, anyway...
Great thread...I hope this grows to about 50 pages. Its always a challenge trying to mount something. I usually think of El Polacko and Bass....and wonder "How would they do it"? and then when Im done think "Is anyone going to laugh at this?"
Worse thing about Hot Rod bracket buiding is most of the time it seems like you gotta build 2 a right and a left! So you really make a kool shock bracket and then realize you gotta go copy it
This is cool ..... Perfect way to mount your alt. , clean an out of the way . mind showing us how it looks from above ?
This isn't mine but it is very cool. f1 steering box with an old vw van carrier bracket. He milled down the steering box and this bracket clamped down around it and also tied it to the frame. It looks freakin stock. Its on a really cool 32 coupe.
I really had to tax my fabrication ability to make this one. I'm not much of a welder, so I use preformed shapes or bend metal with the torch whenever I can. The idler bracket is made from a single piece of 3" x 3" x 1/4" channel. I probably have a solid weekend in it including the mods to the generator housing, but it's worth it every time someone asks me if it's a factory Ford bracket
Just a few things I've made to hang stuff... Not real pretty... but made to look like something Hurst would have made tp put a SBC into a '40 Ford to the stock mounts (w/o the "c" piece they used to provide) I get into making the edges of my brackets as smooth as the face... file, file some more... garnet... all by hand... it's the woodshop teacher in me. You can see it on the edge of this one. I also started rounding the heads of my bolts on my lathe...
Sam, I often do the same thing with the bolt heads. You ever come up with a simple way to make sure they all come out exactly the same height (other than marking each bolt)?
