I am looking for a part # to replace wheel cylinder dust cover boots on a 1937 Studebaker. The wheel cylinders are a step bore and the old boots are a Wagner-Lockheed part # FC-3862 and FC-3863.
Thanks in advance for any information

  2. I bet it's the same as the wheel cylinder on Lockheed brakes that were on some years of Fords around then with the step bore wheel cylinders. I think I have an old Lockheed Ford wheel cylinder at home somewhere if you need dimensions.

Boy, any help would be good at this point. I've given all the standard parts houses the numbers today to no avail.

Also if anyone else has any old parts catalogs, that maybe the guys today don't have, to give me a cross number I would greatly appreciate it.

  4. I checked the napa books and we show only back to '39 Studebaker and the cars and pickups show standard bore 1' front, 7/8 rear cars and trucks alike, but no stepped bore stuff, however most napa stores carry seperate cups and dust boots, we do anyway. Maybe that will help? Or evil bay??? Good luck...........

Yea, I thought of that too. Our NAPA we deal with is really helpful and the problem they see is that our boots have a rectangle slot in the center for the pushrod. Thanks to everyone for posting your ideas, keep em coming and I will keep trying them out until I find the boots.

  7. Do your wheel cylinders look like these? These are Ford Lockheed style brakes. I'm not even sure what year these are, somewhere between '39 and '48 I think? I picked up the different pieces at swap meets. The backing plates have two simple adjusters and they bolt to spindles with the square shaped flange. Lots of Ford restoration parts places sell these wheel cylinders and the parts for them.

Yea! those cylinders look very similar to what we are working with. I know some people had said that Ford used a similar style but I did not have any info as to when or how close they were. I'm gonna try that avenue tomorrow at work and see what I can find. I love this place because so many friendly people take the time to try and help fellow car people out! Thanks again for your responses and if I hit a wall I will bring this up again!

Looks like a whole kit for one wheel. Ends tomorrow.
