project update: `49 Ford woodie

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by 36-3window, Oct 1, 2008.

  1. we were loading it up to haul to the wood guy to have all the wood installed , and snapped a couple pictures. all the wood had been on before paint so it should go good. i'll snap a few more when it's done

yeah , it's kinda street rod-ish with 350/350 , 9" ford rear and mustang II , Vintage heat/air/defrost....but will have a stock outer appearance and interior/dash will all look original. dash and garnish are wood grained and look absolutely beautiful....the pictures do not do them justice . i probably need to cut a coil up front

That is going to be an absolutely BEAUTIFUL car! No need to apologize for it being "street roddie". A lot of us like them too.

I wanna see it! Is the wood in yet?

  17. the wood is on , has been for a couple weeks...i just haven't taken any pictures . trust me when i say it looks fantastic . when i see it this weekend i will snap a few pictures. the car is at the owners waiting for the ulphostery guy

the wood is actually all NOS...yes NOS . the car was bought from a guy that owned it since 1952 and he had collected two sets of nos wood for it, plus many other extra new parts. all the wood was fitted before paint by a guy who specializes in woodie wood . it did take a few adjustments... mainly door gaps and the fit to the front fenders. i guess no two cars or sets of wood are the same . don't ask about it , the extra set of wood has been sold by the car owner

since mentioned the previous owner , i will tell you a little bit about him....he was 93 at the time we dragged it out of his shed , he is 95 now and i understand doing ok. it was hard to see everything he had , since he seamed a little non trusting and we wanted to get loaded and out of there before he changed his mind....but i could see an original `36 ford Phaeton , an original `37 ford pickup , several mid 60's mustangs , at least 1/2 dozen Edsels , some 50's Mopars i didn't pay much attention to. all this stuff was nice and most ran according to him. most he has owned since the 50's. one of the cars he backed out of the way was an Edsel convertable. on the wall i could count at least 5 `36 ford grille shells , plus a couple `35's. he also had another shed the same size , and when i asked him what was in there his response was "more stuff" . i guess he wants to take it with him . i had been by his place at least a 1000 times in my life and never knew that stuff was there

    Beautiful!

Down two inches in back and one in the front and itll be perfect.

i think an almost level stance would work on that.

Classy. I love it. One of the big Woody get-togethers was a few blocks from where I grew up in Encinitas Ca. at Moonlight beach. I have loved them since childhood...

  30. yes , there are some.... just got the car out of the upholstery shop last Saturday (finally!) it was all done in distressed leather.looks great against the woodgrained dash and garnish moldings. took it back for some final buffing /adjusting /installing stainless trim/charge AC/ and alignment. just the radio left. the owner just left and i think he had a woodie , he picks it up Monday or Tuesday
