ok, the chop is done, the dash is done, the suicide door hinges are on order for my 53 dodge truck, and waiting is not one of my good traits so I decided to fill the cowl vent today. I took it all apart and ground off the lower bracket, flattened out the lip on the cowl vent top to give me a tighter gap in the vent hole. Cleaned all the paint off and tack welded it in place, making sure it was level with the rest of the cowl top. More tack welds, some stitch welds (moving the welds around so as not to warp the metal) and leaving plenty of time in between welds for cooling off. after grinding off the welds, it looks like it will take only a skim coat of filler to make it completely disappear. Still waiting for the hinge kit......... Bud
Filling it may LOOK cool but leaving it functional will FEEL much cooler when cruising down the pike on a hot day.
I filled the one in my 49 Plymouth and with the vent windows turned inward when I drive it, it LOOKS cool and FEELS cool too. Bud
I have no problems with cowl vents either, just didn't want one on this build, I have kept others as is. Bud
