I just found a '56 Olds 88 2 door post for sale. I'm thinking of buying it for a few parts that I need. Anybody need Olds parts? Or a whole car missing a few things? It has the headlight doors and rings, which are nice for lots of customs and most of the chrome and stainless. It has a stick which I want to keep but most of it I already have so let me know what you think. I'll check back before I go look at it. It's about 6 hours from me and might take a week to get it home.
The '56 Olds post 2-door with a stick was called a "K-Model", and was kind of an early musclecar. Rod & Custom did a road test on one back in the day. Is the one you've found not cherry enough to consider saving? It's a rare car.
Sounds like it might be a,"K" model and if so pretty rare.I remember reading an old Motor Trend in 56 where they were testing these models that were built specifically for the CHP.A**** them was a 56 Olds 88 2-door with standard shift.Might be worth keeping together if it's original.
I'm with everyone else on this one, it sounds kinda rare and way cool, if all else fails show me how complete and I'm sure I could find someone to take it off your hands
My Dad is looking for a '56 hood in perfect shape. They have a tendancy to collect water on the inside and rust right at the very front edge. He's going to be doing the body work, paint and interior this winter. Please let me know if the hood is good and you wanna sell it.
don't chop it up just for some trans parts, and especially don't sell anything to Denise's dad, that rotten SBC installing traitor!
[ QUOTE ] especially don't sell anything to Denise's dad, that rotten SBC installing traitor! [/ QUOTE ] My Dad is very cool and has given to the HAMB in more ways then you'll ever know. Because of my dad doing his '56 in a non-traditional style, alot of HAMB dudes got some cool free stuff. You got a problem with HAMB dudes getting free stuff? There is, and will, be more stuff by the time he's completely done but I'm sure not shipping anything to SBC hating dudes.
I can vouch for Denise's dad... he gave me a 56 Olds rear for free, so if he wants to run an SBC, or whatever, homie can do what he likes... my kid likes his car too, and he's a picky *******. Besides, we all know Yorg was kidding, weren't ya... Oh yeah, please don't split up the car, in Michigan we'd trade our wives for something like that... at least I would. Jay
Man! I am humbled. I was going to loot the stick out of it for my roadster project, but if someone wants the whole car, I'd like to see it kept together. It's very restorable. I'm trying to find a car trailer to get it home and then I'll post pix of it. Denese, I also need a better hood. I don't think a perfect one will be found by me or anybody else. My '56 is a lifetime So Cali car, built in South Gate and sold and kept in Torrance and Redondo Beach and still has rust under the lip. I'll swap it onto mine if it's better. I'll let ya know, because the one I have now is probably better than any long time Michigan one. I might replace the May-Pops on it and drag it home on a dolly, but I'll need to up grade my hitch. In any case, it'll be at least a week before I have it home. Phil
preety cool cars, but i supose it would depend on the condition it was in if i would part it or not.i wouldnt let the stick part factor anthing.if its decent, and it was mine i would keep her togather, but if no one was willing to put up the cash strip away. i can attest to the hood problem.yeesh! what did they come out of the factory that way.the one on my car has been fibergl***ed on the whole lip,but the one im going to use off my parts car is as close to "perfect" as i have found.the bottom lip anyway.just the tinist bit on one corner, but it rusted in a strange spot on the side.at the top.its small, but annoying.it will be worth fixing just to have a nice lip. eric
[ QUOTE ] oh ****! i forgot the smilie! no cookies for yorg... [/ QUOTE ] I kinda thought you might be pulling my leg but no smiley led me to wonder, so..... I guess Yorg can still have a cookie or two one of these days when we hook up. All the donor hoods dad has checked out have all been poo-poo so the search continues. He even has my mother convinced that he just might have to buy a complete "donor" car for the hood and a few other pieces he needs then sell donor as is. My HAMB brothers will have first choice of anything.
only olds stickshift that is really good is the 1950 manual shifter, 1951 is an downgrade from the 1950 when they used left over CADILLAC / LASALLE ******S yes thats right and the bellhousing isnt the same either, what might be usefull is theflyweel and clutch that i belive is all the same though... ( i got 2 manual shifters, one from a 1950 olds, and a caddy 1953 shifter, basicly the same except caddy has the same tailshaft as the lasalle, olds 1950 had a shorter tailshaft) this is my 1950 olds manual setup with hurst shifter
and this is my 1953 caddy setup with hurst shifter, notice longer tailshaft, but otherwise the same trans and bellhousing as 1950 oldsmobile
this is how a 1950olds + the caddy 331 manual bellhousing looks like yes the one you can use for the lasalle transmission well 1950 olds and caddy manual transmission (caddy 1950-1953? or 1954? do not know what years they stretch, my caddy one is a 1953 though so)
and this is what i belive is a 1951 -> bellhousing and as you see its not the same at all and not usefull to put a lasalle ****** behind your caddy/olds engine (please correct me if im wrong on anything of this , i belive im correct and if im not i really would like to know)
According to my book, a K code denotes a 2 door sedan 88. Auto or stick, as far as I can see. But this car is the one you are talking about as it has delete plates for most accessories. Still having problems finding someone to rent me a trailer or dolly. They say the Olds is too heavy. It ain't, it's my brother. And he ain't coming along. P
My '57 Olds 2-door sedan weighed 4160#. I would guess the '56 was about the same, or perhaps a tetch lighter.
I'm new to the board so it may take a little getting used to. I'm a 56 Olds nut myself and just finished up with a custom hardtop after three and a half years. http://dogtagsvette.5u.com
Dog, looks like they did a nice job, shame about losing the 324 in favour of some light weight namby pamby plastic car crate motor......... And I hope there was a real good reason for it being in that trailer, hell even my tired 55 324 can drive my car al round the country.
LoL...Well, I gotta say that I like the light weight LS1. It dropped the total cars weight to 3800 lbs and gives me 340 rwhp which is about right for a car that size. It gets 22 miles per gallon over the 11 mpg I got with the 324, so I guess it's whatever turns ur crank.... I gotta agree with you on the trailer though. We had to get the car to a show some 500 miles away and we couldn't close the hood....ran out of time. Well, since we showed the car with the hood open, all we had to do was get it there. I plan to drive the pants off the thing starting at months end. It's way more fun to drive to an event. DT
DOH! beat me... i really NEED some 56 headlights/fender tops to graft onto the '53.... anybody else???
Here's another update on this Olds. I bought it yesterday and still have to figure out how to get it from Modesto to Long Beach. It's pretty rusty. There are a lot of good parts and that's what I bought it for. However, it IS a K code stick shift, with manual brakes and steerring. It has delete plates for everything. Original paint, creme and root beer, never repainted, as far as I can see. The stainless on the side is ****. The steering wheel is worn but not cracked. The dash is perfect, the curved gl*** looks good. has the headlight rings, buckets and good front fenders. The hood, as usual, is bad. It's been stored outside for years and is rusty in the usual places for that. It's a California black plate car and dosen't have rust in the frame or rockers, just surface rust. And lots of it. I'll post pictures as soon as I get it home. It was dark last night. I think it's worth fixing, but it needs a donor car or it will be damned expensive to do. This is a car that is too cool to let somebody put a SBC in and I hope an Oldsophile will buy it. I hope the same thing for all Oldsmobiles. It would be perfect for somebody with a 4 door, to just switch parts and cherry the 2 door body and have a rare car. But it didn't give me the parts I wanted for my driver '56. Sigh
so,if you found a moredoor donor would it take care of both your cars? also, when you say it has everything deleted do you mean just radio and clock delete or is there heater delete also? just wondering if that was later, like for ramcharger dodge early 60's type of thing.there's only 2 reasons to order a car like that from the dealer;A.you are the world's biggest cheapskate and who needs all that **** anyway? or B.it's a sleeper, intended for stock car or drag racing. i'm inclined to think B. because a true cheapskate would have bought a rambler! let me know if i can help-george Rocketeers! enforcer
