Remember Remember the November BANGER MEET!!!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Artiki, Nov 1, 2008.

  1. Got the B fired up tonight. DID NOT LEAK A DROP!!!!!! I am so friggin happy :D We ran it about 10 minutes, it got nice and warmed up and ran super. It is very responsive and sounds great. Did have a little leak out of the side of the pan due to me not tightening the pan bolts enough, so I squeezed em a little more and gonna fire it again tomarow to make sure that works, then out of the stand and into the coupe!!!!

    Good work, Chris.

  4. The early flathead V8 will bolt right up. For some reason the stock steels replacement are listed 32 to 48 and 49 to 53 but the Aluminum flywheel as sold by Speedway and others is listed as fitting 32 to 53. Some are drilled for 9" and some are drilled for a 10" clutch.
The flywheels will bolt up but the starter has to be modified by reversing the Bendix drive.

Thanks for posting the pictures Bill. This is the answer to a question I just haven't got around to ask yet.

There are some interesting pictures in some of the other albums too.

My wife found this picture last week and I've been meaning to put it up on here. Then saw Dredman also found it in the Time Life photo archive.

Anyone notice the OHV banger motor... Dual Carbs, and a 37 Flathead distributor mounted to the top, running only 4 leads? Pretty neat I think. Anyone running an early flatty distributor like this on their banger today?

How are you going to fix it? Mill the head? Has anybody ever heard of people stacking gaskets to gain clearance? Maybe with one of them solid copper ones?
I'm asking 'cuz I have the same issue. I have two copper, lined gaskets stacked in mine right now but haven't ran the engine since.

Boy, "the manx" sure is lookin' good.

  8. I wouldn't stack gaskets, either fly cut the head or have the tops of the pistons shaved.
My friend just had his Lions cast iron dual plug head fly cut for the same problem, cost like 100.00 but well worth it

    Don't stack gaskets!!!!!!!!

I took the pistons out and turned @ .045" off the top of them. Then had to have them re balanced. If you flycut the head, you dont have to re-balance the pistons.
