I'm working on a '28-'29 Jaguar(SS actually, but close enough since Jag bought them) replica, and I'd like to use a reasonable faximilie of the factory front suspension. What type was it? How well did it work? Any pics of something similar? Thanks

I didn't know the made the SS100 that far back but they had Parallel leaf springs and beam axle in front, sorta like a 53 Chevy pickup. but with the springs outsode the frame rails and the spring shackles are in the rear instead of at the front. Ladder frame.

  3. '38 maybe, not '28. Jaguar (Swallow) weren't making their own cars until early- mid- 30's. In tha late 20's they were still making sidecars and custom bodied Austin's.

I don't know about the suspension. There's a ton of info online. Moss Motors might have repop parts.

Looks very similar to the SS100 that DrJ posted(Probably because it's an SS100 Kit :) ). Thanks for the link.

Really strange source for pics of SS Jag details bubbling up from deep memory...there's a series in R&C in the early 1960's on scratcbuilding a model of one, with lots of detail pics. I know someone on here is capable of posting that!

    Hey,

SS/Jaguar was still using Standard/Triumph frames and suspension pieces
up to the war. Perhaps a picture of one of those......

    Yowza Bugman,
No doubt several years late but...........

I'm an SS1 owner. Standard supplied chassis and engines for SS back then. Not sure about what SS was making in '28-29. I thought at that time they were just rebodying other companies bare chassis/engine combos and making sidecars.

If you're doing one of the GRP replicas, they were "usually" of the later SS100 and the lines are sort of close but not quite, as a few compromises were made to accomadate the differnt powerplant and chassis that the mfg wanted to offer.

The front axle on my SS1 is similar to that of a early Ford.

If this project is still viable and the info is needed I could send you a jpeg.

Good Health to You and Yours, Bob
