Think about it... You're a young punk of maybe 12 or 13 years old. It's late. You are supposed to be getting your sleep. You've got the covers over your head and your trusty scout light out and shining on a copy of the February, 1947 issue of Mech...

To read the rest of this blog entry from The Jalopy Journal, click here.
Oh man I really dig reading about the old Hot-Roding ways and the pictures of how they used to do things, Another thing I always check out is the adverti*****ts as some of them are hard to believe >>>>.

That's great reading, Ryan. It also brings back memories for us older guys (from the late fifties). Thanks for puttin' that up. Mike
I like the hand tinted black and white photo. The headlight stands are a little strange, just goes to show "period correct" isn't always stuff we would want to put on a new "period correct" build.
Ohhhh, its a transcribed article? So Ryan isnt 'between rehearsals in New York for a tour in the USO Camp Shows’ presentation of “Girl Crazy,"' then? Thank God for that, that almost ruined everything for me...
Interesting and entertaining read. Good description of a '47 El Mirage meet. Also interesting that Hoodlums were already considered a problem by '47. I'd always thought that 'it' was just gaining momentum at that stage.
Thanks for another neat article, really enjoyed reading it. I was only 6 in '47, but by '49 I was borrowing all those older magazines that anyone would lend me and eventually I was able to subscribe and pick up the hot rod and custom magazines at the news store. Now I have the HAMB - Thanks again. Al
That should be entered in a encyclopedia somewhere. Or taken to a Kinkos and copies to p*** out to people who just don't seem to get it.
Wow, what a great article. I wanna be a hot rodder too when I grow up! Notice that the author is Earle Bruce, who later achieved notoriety for his chopped '40 coupe as well as his Dutch-flamed Mercedes gullwing.
****,all i did was look at the pictures. But isn`t that what hot rodders do lol.Just kiddin man cool read.........
Quote... Its a great sport, if youre smart, careful and a darn good automobile mechanic. A real hot rodder is all three. Cool.
Thanks Cheif one more magazine ***le to look for and save while looking through damp musty vintage **** and comics looks like the 1000's of old" National Geographic's" gotta go..........
So how many went to Ebay to look for a copy of the mag? Thanks for another good read Ryan, and Merry Christmas to all! JK
From the article, "Take a long look at some of the better hot rods and you will find that they meet the most rigid specifications for automotive safety...a hot-rodder DRIVING a hot rod or souped-up car is a sportcleanly compe***ive, law-abiding, and as reasonably safe as airplane, bike, or midget auto racing, boxing, football, or any other spine-tingling spectacle that thrills American..." This is why rat rodders are unacceptable. Ratrodders go against everything real hot rodders have spent decades achieving.
