I'd like to do something different with my trim insert (currently the original gold anodized aluminum). My latest thought is to have it woodgrained by a pinstriper (Rollie are you listening?) with a very subtle effect in a very neutral light grayish-brown. Another idea I had was to paint it the same colour as the engine - a rootbeer metallic brown colour, but I think it would stand out too much.

I'd like to hear some other ideas.

I like the idea of a colour, like the red on this fairlane works well...

    and here's my paint scheme...

  2. My thoughts?

Either have the insert lower body color with spider webbing or modify the trim as is on this RANCHERO-

Body colour or no insert is an interesting idea.

I can't modify the trim, paint is done and holes are drilled.

  4. How about filling in the gold trim area between the stainless with some mirror material? They make mirrors in plexiglass and you can cut it to fit in there.Might look gaudy, but I like shiny stuff......

  5. I think Brown of any shade would look out of Place unless your going to do some upholstery in a Brown/Tan color. Also, I'm shopping hard for a Project 57 2 Door Wagon. I have a totally different Idea to pull off. Also one will look good sitting next to my 57 Convert and 57 Fairlane Ht. Know of any good Body's around?

Maybe an insert like a 57 chevy Bel Air? Something engine turned? Doesn't have to be silver, could be anodized.

  7. I think the original gold would look good but I like the contrast of the red on the black car. I like the idea of no insert with painted contrast.

I'd get some paint chips for a color decision then paint some cardboard, tape it on and see what ya got. Maybe a silver color with your paint scheme.

How about the material that they wrap drum sets in a white pearl insert type of effect

thanks for the ideas. The drum set 'pearl stuff' is something I never would have thought of, an engine-turned effect might also work...

What about a pattern printed on vinyl, is that a lame idea? even if it was a cool pattern?

Unfortunately no, took me awhile to find this one. I do have a Ranchero project for sale if you're interested though? rear clip is bad.

Do you take Kustoms Illustrated...??? If so, check out the '57 Ford retractable side trim in the # 4 issue...

Is the lower picture your car or just the idea for the paint scheme, If so, I really like that idea of the woodgrained effect, it would work well with those two colors. Maybe incorporate that trim color into the interior somehow too
    Just my 2 cents

Yeah, the lower pic is my car. The idea behind the woodgrain was to tie in a very subtle surf wagon feel. I would love to use the woodgrain effect on the headliner somehow...

I think thatd be pretty damn cool and Im diggin the idea of the subtle surf wagon, then again I'd have it be a full on surf wagon :D I love the two colors you chose for the body, and again I think the woodgrain would work really well with them. I'm tryin to think how to add it to the headliner, maybe you could border the headliner with actual wood grain or do something like this, which may be too surf wagon / tiki for your likin, so i was thinking maybe instead of the having the cross woven bamboo you could have your interior color headliner and then do the wooden bands across it :

I've thought about various ways to do the headliner. For instance, use a large sheet of bamboo paneling (from a 4x8) as an insert in the flatest part of the roof and use the seat-matching vinyl as a border that would go into the corners and right down to the garnish moldings.

Another idea is to make a digital pattern/texture from a photo and have it printed on fabric - the fabric is then installed like any other material. This option would allow me to use the exact same pattern on the exterior trim inserts - whatever colour I choose.

Those both sound like good ideas, I personally like the bamboo idea better, but that's just my 2 cents. What color is the interior? (i'm hoping it's the same as the outside because i'm really digging that combo) hahah. If you check out Slimegreeeeeen 's '65 burban "Ratiki" He has a pretty badass bamboo headliner.

So your wagon is a Meteor? Where did the anodized insert go on a Meteor? That side trim/paint line doesn't look anything like the normal '57 Ford ones do. Am I missing something? I don't see where the original gold inserts went on your car.

The insert goes on the door and part way onto the quarter...

What if you "lace" in a geometric pattern to soften the sharp contrast of the two colors? Triangles or a diamond shape.

Since you asked for opinions, I think the bright red would look bitchin' between your 2 colors.

  23. In my opinion, vinyl doesn't belong on the exterior of a car that looks so nice.

Keep looking.... If you keep the thread alive, one of the Braniacs on here will eventually suggest the 'perfect' idea.

  24. Is the original insert a waffle pattern?

What about having it chromed or polished or powder coated or airbrushed or or or ?

Blue pearloid. In a light blue, in-between the dark blue and white colors of the car.

Search the web for blue pearloid 'pickguard' (guitars) - there are suppliers who have this available in sheets.

  26. Meteors were trimmed up Ford bodied cars sold by Mercury dealers in Canada. Later they had the Mercury bodies (1964 up) but with Ford interiors. Not to be confused with the '62/'63 Mid size Mercury Meteors that were sold in the States and Canada

That's not a bad idea, cause right now it looks good with no insert, just the blue but it's missing something subtle.
