What's the history on the car Don?

  3. I wish I knew? It looks similar to Shirley's car, but I don't think it is....It looks like some orange, green, paint under the blue, anybody?

The Mark Williams chassis Frakes and Funk double is currently in Lebanon, Indiana being restored by a friend of mine. It is the real deal as confirmed by the original owners/builders.

Here's couple pics of "N&S Malfunction" running a 331 inch flathead in Chassis Research rails built by friend Teddy Spehar (way before the Motown Missile) and De Nichols, c. 1961.

That shot was fron 1962, they had run a main bearing, sent a club member back home to the garage to fish out the old bearings from the trash. Installed them and turned Low ET of the day. Garlits was just turning demonstration runs. I need to assemble the SBC and rebuild the ARGON injectors and the restoration in done.

  14. Well guys, after 6 months of part time tinkering, my Fiat bodied, '69 Woody car is going back together in EJ Kowalski's shop in Reading, PA.
The blown SBC was test fired on the engine stand this week and it sounded lumpy and bumpy, just like I wanted.
More photos as things get more together.

  15. You have a very neat digger there Bill, but I don't believe it's a Chassis Research frame. The small tube stringer is on the wrong side of the main rail, and the roll bar bracing also seems slightly different. It was very common for local builders to take Scotty's basic design and do their own version.

Hey Guffey, I don't mean to hijack this thread but I'm thinking about doing a similar front end on a street driven FED with a T-bucket body stuck between the rear wheels. I even started a thread on it here:

    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=309576

Your name is mentioned on post #91, page 5.

How did this front end set up work out? Would you do it again?

    Tyler,

Here's one you can show to Pop-Pop. Pa Hoover working on the car in March, 1969 at an AHRA race in Manhattan, KS. I spent some time sitting in the bleachers talking to Tom. Good memories.

  25. Not sure of the builder, but a 5 on 5 rear should be an early Olds. Very common for that period. Pretty small roll hoop with minimal protection. Looks like a good el car.

This dragster was built by Frank Held in Columbus Ohio 1958, sold to Dave butler and Jim Alspaugh, all members of Pipers Hot Rod Club. This picture is from Detroit Nationals 1959. It then had a 354 Hemi, but it had a Flathead from the beginning, feautured in Hot Rod Sep 58. I own it now and hope to have it ready summer 09. Its a flathead in it now.

  28. It looks like someone had an extra Sprint Car body laying around. Using parts like that was a way of really giving a dragster a classy look without having to be an expert fabricator. Great photo.
