ok so its a few hours till the ball drops and today i made my car a roller im feeling extremely powerful and wanted to re***le and share my joy plus i picked up a tko 600 5 speed and coil overs so im happy this is a goodyear ha so i asked a question about rat rods on here and was shot down since ive come along way im not building a rat rod just a functional custom to my liking anyways it was a 1925 dodge touring car 4 door rag top much like chitty chitty bang bang i have a love for model a tudors so i made my interpretation in my garage with hand tools and a welder and a hand drill and grinders and a sawzall and a chop saw because i cant afford outlandish prices stupid greedy old *******s want for rotting old junk for the record this car was totally unuseable wasted rusted and beat cutting it and bringing it back to life was the only option cause it was surely headed to the crusher I cut the body in 6 peices to begin shortening it 18 or so inches and widening the front to fit the rear fused both doors together to get one large suicide door and of course built the roof windsheild frame well everything from scratch its gonna be a 5 to 10 thousand dollar project with a small block and a four speed simple functional
Dude that Looks good, call it whatever you want, a purple *****ie with pink polcadots, it's yours and your gonna drve it. Keep the updates coming.
A rat is making **** out of something decent !! This is looking like 180 from that ,taking a sow's ear and making the silk purse. Keep us up-dated.
Much better direction than a Rat Rod! Great first project mate. I guess we cant con you out of the SMC though?? Aww well, enjoy it anyway. Doc.
Looks pretty cool, and very unique! Keep up the good work. I'll enjoy seeing more progress pics as you keep going on it. I think that giant headlight looks just right on there. I like the pattern in the gl*** lens. The whole front end is really unique. Keep having fun with it!
I WANT A LIFT IN MY GARAGE. looks like one hell of a project man. the R word is over used and abuse.. I like your style.
You didn't ask for input, and let me start by saying that you are doing a hell of a good job so far, but since you are still in the mockup phase can I suggest you move the front wheels a few inches farther forward? If you look at pictures of cool rods most of them have the front wheels closer to the front relative to the grille. But it's yours and if you like it the way it is then by all means just ignore me.
That's actually shaping up to be pretty cool. I second the wheel placement. Also, try not to use a cellphone camera the next time. It looks like you have some nice fabrication skills there and it ****s to not be able to see them clearly.... Now, I want to see the back of it. Curious how you did the roofsection. D:
Looks pretty cool! My only criticism would be the filler panel you made for the firewall. I would suggest cutting that out and bead rolling two horizontal lines in it to turn what used to be a circle into an oval. That's the beauty of building a hot rod, modifying things so people never know they were touched. I know you said you are using a limited set of tools, so I would suggest either buying a cheap Harbor Freight bead roller or getting creative with ways to make that relief in the panel, maybe cut some tubing in half and weld it in there? Good luck!
Keep it up. I absolutely agree- the prolific use of the term "rat rod" absolutely irritates me. I've got a '30 model A roadster pickup that has no less than 20 different years worth of ford parts on it, from a horn off a 26 T, to a rear end from a 66 bronco, and I made it all work. It's all painted, there's no rust, And all the true ol' timers here in Denver have all commented how my 'A' is just like they used to do it, before mail order and ***emble-as-you-go or "buy this book and you can build your own period-perfect deuce roadster". Not that I think that there's anything wrong with that approach- its just that I like to build cars in the same spirit that they did back then, which seems like more of a lost art, at least out here. So unfortunately , I equate "rat rod" with maximum body rust, air bags, and the occasional barbed wire t*******, which is fine too, just not my style or what I build- so I take issue with the labelling. Again my opinion, my take- so don't sweat the unsolicited advice and opinions and make something that YOU want. It's your rod right? Now if I can only better listen to my own advice....
Yeah, that's a good idea on that too. I was thinking the same thing. The factory put those beads in there to keep the firewall from being "floppy" in that area. By having no bead in that area, it'll get floppy in the middle again and it might crack the welds at the ends of the stiffer beaded area. It'll look better too with beads. A good place to get thin walled steel tubing (~16 gauge) that you might be able to slice lengthwise to make those beads, is if you have any old busted kid's swing sets or jungle jims or maybe the diagonal braces from the base of a busted free-standing basket ball hoop. Also, if you don't have a bead roller, you might get lucky finding similar beads in something like the inside door panel out of a junkyard van. Those beads are big enough that you might be able to just wrap some sheet metal over a piece of pipe to free hand bend them. Neat project. It's pretty cool playing Dr. Frankenstein and trying to make something cool out of a pile of junk.
I like the chalk art on the cowl. Looks like cave drawings. You're not feedin'us and you're not screwin' us. We are insignificant to you. Build it the way you want it.
Just learned something! Saw a firewall like that at a recent swap meet and wondered what it was from - knew it was not Ford. I like your new ride. Especially like your design on the grill shell top. Looks kinda like a 30's track racer. Keep us posted on your progress!
thanks every one for the kind imput i have a axle the tires were just float i am running the axle behine the grill like say a 33 and up for that way its stubby i like it little and my garage is tiny plus when im grabbin gears itll will threaten to kill me as for the fire wall it is getting completely redone it was the first thing i did to get the body whole again so it was quickly tacked there is so much to do but it finally looks like a car again its gonna feature a giant flip top sun roof and i agree rat rod **** has gone nuts someone has to stop these people hahahha theres th rear view for the guy that asked i do need better pictures ill try i wanna make it a roller soon then ill get motor mounted that will help me get alot of stuff together
Nice work keep it going. Just to be a little stupid when will you chop it? That seems to be a usual question on a regular build but you really are building it and from the ground up. Well done.
ok so ive been busting my *** and im happy to report the rear end is fully suspended i got a 10 bolt from a 89 firebird with nice big disks for 67 bucks needless to say i was siked so i bought a generic 4 link kit and cut it up and came up with a ladder bar suspension and a panhard rod i will probably change the panhard down the road but for now i know what i want thanks again to all your kind words please try to not point out the obvious because this is such a consuming ground up build you must realize many things will change as i go cause i cant finalize things till other peices fall into place in other words if it looks like **** chances are i plan on changing it anyways i host my pictures with photo bucket and they are pretty grainy its sad
its been awhile but i am ready to get this goin again and hopefully it will run this summer sometime but heres the motor and trans in place
