I need to buy a hub puller for early Fords, looked at some of our HAMB vendors, didn't see one. Couldn't find one in any of my catalogs. If anyone can help me out I'd sure appreciate it! Thanks in advance.
There used to be someone selling them on eBay all the time. I bought one used but have not used it. I know someone tried it and worked fine. Could be made easy with a lathe and some drilling.
I see 'em on eBay all the time. Same hub puller works for early MoPars as well. couple different kinds, too... Here are 4 that are all different... I personally like the 3rd one. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180311191896 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200283499372 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=260326698343 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160301652024
I bought one from Snyder's. (www.snydersantiqueauto.com) It's a reproduction of the K.R. Wilson tool. At $135.00 it's not cheap. But, it took me less than two minutes to remove two drums. Good luck!
I just went through this pulling hubs off of my '39 rear. I have wide five drums/hubs on there. Note that only the first and last designs (in the links above) will work with wide fives. I borrowed a friends who had the first one and it worked much better than mine (I have a design similar to the last one). Mike
Make one. Built for a 50 Plymouth coupe, but it would probably work for Fords. With the accessories. More info can be found in an old post named "****o Puller."
I just returned the one I borrowed from a mechanic friend to do the brakes on the back of my 59 Plymouth. It's just like the third ebay one. Worked great.
The number 3 item is the one I have. It's made by OTC and works real good. I have 5 arms which helps spread the load evenly. If you get one of those, be sure to use some anitsieze on the threads.
I saw one made by a buddy, basically some thick metal stock - like 1/2" or so, couple of holes that fit over the wheel studs, put two lug nuts on and alternate tightening them. By pushing on the end of the axle shaft, you'll break the hub loose. It's hard for me to describe, but look at your hub and think about using the studs to make it all work.
like C9 says, build one. i made one like this one in the picture for pulling my '36 hubs. Forgot who made this one exactly....sorry whoever you are...i'd love to give you credit! anyhow, what year rearend are you pulling the hubs from? With the early fords supposedly it's not a good idea to pull from the studs...supposedly. With the 36 style "wide 5" you can't really. And, though they are built pretty tough, use some caution because you can screw up the 'tip' of the axle in which case you're really screwed because you have to pull the whole rear apart to get the axle shaft out. Read post number 10 by the mr. Bruce Lancaster, might help you out. Good luck!! http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3186&highlight=hub+puller
Thanks for all the replys! I would rent one, but I want one of my own. I need to remove the Model A hubs on my front end, and I'm not really sure which rear I'm using yet. Got a '39 with the wide 5 pattern I'd really like to use, but I've got a '48 also. Whichever rear I decide to use I'm gonna put matching drums and backing plates on front. Anyway, I have several to pull.
I have this one from Hovie on *that auction site*....he usually puts a Buy it Now for $56.00 That's what I paid........have used it for about 5 years and it works perfectly......go hee: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180311191896 CB
I'm gonna try to buy this one, it looks like it'll do most of what I need. Doesn't have a " buy now" price on it.
be sure you stay under the "buy it now" like the person said . 4tford has a pic of a good one . most "a" vendors sell them . ........... steve
