I would be all over that in a heartbeat. Even if you don't love it, you could flip it easy. I ran across one years ago, it was tri-color... black, white, and pink. Severe rustout (you easterners know what I mean), but complete. The old lady was ready to sell it to me, but she called the son (the owner), and he almost flipped his wig... no way, no how. Car is probably beyond salvage if it still exist. Anyhow, GET IT.

Long story short- I'm getting it.

My cousin called me: "You want to buy the ugliest car ever made?"
He's a 57 Chevy guy but knows I like Edsels. He's been working the owner of this car for about 2 years since he first saw the car. The guy, of course, was an unstable fruitcake who inherited the car from his father who inherited it fron his uncle.

Anyway, the car has been paid for and has been removed from the trailer park where it's been living. I still need to move it from Flagstaff to Phoenix.

It's not too rusty, the only exterior rust is a quarter sized bubble at the bottom of one front fender. The rear floors are rusty (but available aftermarket) because Edsel wagons had rubber floormats and the weatherstrips are all dried out.

  13. Best case scenario is that you'll build it into a really neat car. Worst case scenario is that you'll sell it at a profit to somebody else who'll build it into a really neat car. None of the really hard to find pieces that are unique to Edsel are missing. Just about all of the sheet metal from the cowl back is the same as Ford so fixing the floor pan rust won't be a problem. Can't lose on this one. Scarce as it is, I'd vote for going the mild custom route. I can see it lowered a bit, slick paint job, windows tinted as dark as the law will allow. Or maybe satin black with flames. Your car, have fun with it. A car like this can be built to be comfortable for the whole family on a long trip and cruise Interstate speeds all day long.

From the firewall back, they're the same as '57 Fords. Bear that in mind when looking for parts.

You're fortunate to have the manual ******. Their push****on set-up was less than reliable.

Cool car. We had a 4 door for a while, but never got around to doing anything with it.

Forgot to add, I still have some parts laying around. Shoot me a PM in a month or two after you've gotten into the car and I've gotten settled into my new house and we'll see if you can use any of it.

The fact that it's a Ford from the firewall back does make life a lot easier.
The uniquely Edsel stuff- the front clip, trim and rear details are all good.

It's been a while since I've driven a 3 on the tree, but it should be fun. I like the feeling of shifting to 3rd gear.

The only piece missing is the little chrome strip on the drivers side below the rear side windows.

My 59 Edsel is harder to find trim and metal for- it's a Ford shell, but not much is made for '59's and even less for 4 doors and even less for wagons.

That was my age then too. The '58 was also AMT's first 3 in 1 "customizing kit" release that summer, which was landmark because that kit was the first major release in 24th scale and that became the standard.

The Edsel was a big deal at the time, but it quickly bombed. They were considered a joke and to this day are worth less than anything else comparable for that reason, even given the fact there are so few that escaped the crusher.

All that aside, they are cool now because of being weird and that's a great deal.

There are 3 '59 4 door wagons and 1 '59 4 door at a yard about 4 miles from me. Once I get all of my other projects done, I'm after a black one he's got but I'd rather have a '58!

That Roundup's twin brother sat in the local Ford dealer's body shop impound lot for 15 years - identical right down to the big motor/OD/radio delete ... all gl*** smashed out & rags for interior. It disappeared about 20 years ago.

Well, I finally got it home , got it all legal with a ***le and registration...and...I did a gut check...It's in the HAMB cl***ifieds now.

Our summers here in AZ are like winters everywhere else- it's the time to either put things on hold or work inside. I already have some inside jobs for the summer (seat for my '60 F-100, Gas tank for my 59 Edsel, Get my "new" 75 Bronco roadworthy and pull the rear end in my 29 RPU)

So as much as I want to tackle it, this one is going for sale until the weather gets reasonable again.

Check post #4 from a year ago.
    That's who's buying it!

He really did want it, he gently pestered me every few weeks for the last year and is now arranging to have it shipped across the country.

Thought that I would add to this old post and show the progress that I have been making since my H.A.M.B. acquisition.

Its going to be my tow car for my "trailor queen" T Birds.

Got a fresh 390 with an rv cam,3 on the tree and "O" drive with 389 rear gears.

    Perfect for towing.

Thanks to my H.A.M.B. buddy Section 8 for hookin me up.
