I am using my contacts on here to see if anyone knows of a good mechanic in the Burnette, TX (Austin) area. The car isn't an old hot rod but is my old 69 Camaro that I sold a man. He is busting my chops wanting small repairs done. He says he can't get the car licensed because the back up lights and horn don't work (maybe a few other small items) and is freaking out. The car was frame off restored and is like new but like all old cars, something always needs something... He has been comparing it to his 08 Shelby GT500 Mustang and is picking it apart. I offered to help pay for repairs to make him happy but he claims the only shop he knows of is like 200 miles away and they charge $95 an hour. I am just afraid of him taking it somewhere like that and saying "I bought this from a guy in Ky and he is paying the bill, have at it..."
I know this is off topic but it is worth trying.
    Thanks in advance!

Lewis AUTOMOTIVE IN BURNET IS A GREAT SHOP. If your talking west of Austin. But it sounds like the guy is being a little to picky!

Good luck with that, but I'll tell you right now if he bought a frame off car, sight unseen and now is busting your chops I'm guessing you're never going to be rid of him.

FWIW, the back up lights dont have to work to pass inspection in Texas, unless it is a commercial vehicle

I’m sure you just want to make the car right for the guy but the statement above makes me pull out my BS flag!
    Don’t send him a dime.
Give us his name and we’ll pay him a visit.
This guy doesn’t deserve an old car.

Marble Falls/ Horseshoe Bay, TX are right next to Burnet. There is a shop called Monster Rides that should be able to handle all of that.
I've heard good things about them and they work on all kinds of performance stuff.

    THWACK!!!!!
If you still have his money tell him you'll give it back less your cost of recovery. PROVIDING the car is EXACTLY as it was when you sold it.
Other than that the universal answer to clowns like that,,, blow me!
    Is he a scammer?

His name is Steve and he claims he isn't a "car guy" but bought it as an investment. I supplied over 75 photos of the car including it on a lift (I was actually kinda proud of my presentation). He sent an inspector out who was with the car for about 2 hours. The inspector test drove it and put it on the lift too.
The car isn't perfect but is very nice. You can pick most any car if you try hard enough. It is is a hugger orange RS/SS 396- 4 speed '69 Camaro that is as clean underneath as on the topside. It wasn't cheap at just over $37K but that is not alot of money for that car... I'd post photos if I knew how. The guy is very persistant and calls me everyday no less than 4 or 5 times. I'd give his money back but the reason I sold it was to buy another car and have spent the money. Bad move on my part I know but I have never bought a car and asked the seller for repair money or my money back. I also don't buy cars without looking at them with my own two eyes...

Maybe he should be calling the inspector who looked the car over for him.

Sounds like he's just trying to get some money out of you.

    Good Luck

If you sold the car with no warranty implied, tell him to piss up a rope. The inspectors should be the one he is trying to scam money from.

If he bought it "AS IS" and you have a bill of sale to prove that then you have absolutely nothign to worry about. Hell, as long as you had the car described to the best of your knowledge, they can't get you for a damn thing. Second, if he had it inspected by an outside party, and still bought the car, it's his problem now.

Honestly, it sounds like this guy is a prick and has been watching Waaay too many Barret-Jackson auctions.

He isn't actually sueing me yet but has mentioned it. I am hoping it doesn't come to that. I don't mind to fix a few of the things but he wasn't ripped off by any means at all, just not realistic of what a 40 year old car is really like. Now he is just nit picking the car to death like it is a barn find. Basically every single thing on the car is new. I don't have a signed bill of sale but do have the inspection report and the auction he bought it on (you guess) clearly stated the car to be as is with no warranty written or implied. I am not trying to stir up anything but check it out. Auction # 250314130265.

If he bought it from that auction site and the listing stated as is -where is AND he hired a outside inspection it's HIS car and problem. If you are feeling genrious give him a few hundred only after he signs a noterised release saying he has no further claims. Really sounds like a case of buyer's remorse.

  18. For regular ol repairs, like you mentioned....Jessie at Bertram Tire and Auto can get it fixed up at "reasonable shop rates". About 10 miles east of Burnet, Texas on Hwy 29. Hea general repair shop and has done several "regular jobs" for me and I'm satisfied with thier work....his phone# 512 355 3277
I have to agree with some of the other comments about him being an "interesting person" to have to deal with.....probably ought to just work out deal with him for a "few dollars" to cover repairs....Gee whiz, it IS a used car....sounds like he should "invest" in something that he knows about...haha......(for some reason the word "asshole" keeps coming up in my mind)

If you are paying for the repairs, you get to pick the shop. If he is paying for the repairs, he can take it to the $95 an hour shop. Have him agree to it in writing. If not tell him to look at the "as is" in the auction and let him know you are being a good guy about it when you can just walk away.

As a side note to this, hiring an inspector.... A good friend of mine is the largest dealer in the world for a certain kind of classic car. He has inspectors come and look at cars all the time. They never give a "buy it" recomendation because of people like this. I build cars for a living and I can tell you crap does happen. Even when you fixed everything, it can still quit working in a day. Most of the parts are still 40, 50, 60 plus years old.

The Shelby registry has the warrenty records for some of the cars when they were new. Cars were back to the shop three or four times the first year for stuff just like this when they were brand new.

LOOK ,if HE HAS a problem and you want to be a nice guy ,

Just have him take the car to a Chevrolet dealership and fix the horn and have the inspection done their,

Even if it cost a hundred bucks ,who cares, you made good money on the car and its worth the bucks to have the asshat out of your life....

Thanks for everyone's responses. They have been good for some comic relief. I was real proud of that car and it sucks that he is picking it to death. I am willing to throw a few hundred bucks at the car to make him happy but have the feeling it will be never ending. A lot of hard work (and money) went into that car.

  26. I wouldn't give the guy a dime--- Definately BUYERS REMORSE
Next time he calls tell him to call some one who gives a shit.
Pretty hard to sue some one out of state, and if he does he will have to do it in your state. Pretty spendy on his part.

Morgan Rowe (Moe) on here is near there. I am not sure of his hourly rate, but he is quite fair, very honest and extremely capable.

Lux at Crush Proof is a bit farther up the road and again I would trust him to work on absolutely anything I own. However, he may be a bit busy this week.

However, you arent the KIA dealership. Car people buy cars all the time as is. I have never and would never ask a seller to make ANY repairs to a car I was buying. I would have figured the cost of the work into my offer. Just because this dude isnt a car guy, doesnt mean that he doesnt have to abide by our rules. We out number him and that's the way our worlds works.

    12 volt repairs aren't shit.
Tell the old geezer to take it to a stereo installer, they'll find the problem in 5 minutes... that's what they do.(and for less than a mechanic)
I did it for 10 years... it's ALWAYS some fucking wire touching ground somewhere.
I hate people that complain over nothing.

    I wouldn't give him a dime.
You sold it, he bought it, done.
He's only trying to (excuse the term) Jew some money out of you.
Take my advice, send the bastard to a car stereo shop, tell them your story, and tell them to send you the bill.
It will be less than this codger is trying to milk back out of you... I promise.

    **EDIT**
Ok, I just looked at the pics on the auction page...
Man... tell that fucker to take a hike.

Hey, if I had bought that car then called you about a problem and you said you "were willing to throw a few hundred" back at me to keep me happy, what do you think I would do?

Absent any warranty you might have given it's simple.

Say goodby to him. Call him up and tell him don't call you anymore. Goodby.

If you somehow implied a warranty, well, you know the drill.........
