That'll teach me to use carnut as my only resource... All I can figure on the pontiac is it is a canadian,or a custom.
google image search only turned up one other 62 pont. race car, and it was a custom build...
    they do look good though!

  9. That is sweeeet Tom, thanks! Looks like you lowered it some more too...and shaved it!
I agree, I wouldn't chop this one. I'd like to find roller with very little rust. Not sure how to handle glass but I do have couple ideas.

unfortunately, no production '62 Pontiac bubbletops.

those 2 custom bubbletops are 2 different cars.

i've seen pictures of the unstickered one around for a long time, and Greene claims to have done the stickered custom this Summer. thankfully not chopped.

Owning a 61 Bel Air, I did think about it...but not for long. I like the idea of customizing for an individual and improved look, but in my opinion that's an area that can't be improved. I like some of the examples shown on the earlier cars (59s n 60s) and Vaughns Caddy is exceptional. On the Olds...it could be done but the amount has to be very subtle, nearly impossible to detect. I say that because the Olds has a larger overall profile with the sunken taillights and "finned" bumper/quarter panel effect.

This post recalls the Fury top on the 63 Impala. Now that's a hit in my mind.

Found this Starliner. Laid back A-pilar and sunken into the cowl for a 2.5 chop. I've seen a smilar one in Canada. I can't find anything on it. All I remember was that it was green.

This issue was sticking in my craw, so I spent some time re-looking at my source and combing the net.

I read my source wrong: the 127K units is the Biscayne & Bel Air 2-dr sedans combined.

Here's the link to supposedly verified Chevrolet information -

    http://www.348-409.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2737&highlight=bubbletop

1962 Bel Air Sport Coupe (the 'bubbletop') ~

    5,950 V-8s
    3,825 I-6s
    9,775 total U.S. '62 bubbletops

    2,045 V-8s
    710 I-6s
    2,755 total Canadian '62 bubbletops

    Grand Total : 12,530.

Of the 9,775 cars, approximately 600 were 409 cars.

Much better, no? and sorry for my earlier misdirection...

  18. I agree, a little too much on the body, but I dig the pointy rear end. Maybe pie cut the rear to 5" and the rest 2-3" like your other photo chop. Good work and much better proportions IMO.

What the yellow Cadillac needs most is to have its side trim put back on.

Lucky 7's performed this 2 inch chop on Richard Zocchi's 60 Olds.

Said it before & I'll say it again. THANK GOD for PhotoShop guys in the HAMB. You give guys a chance to SEE how what they mentally visualize would actually LOOK before picking up the reciprocating saw. SOMETIMES it looks great, sometimes it's awful, so it's great to be able to try it digitally BEFORE doing something that is almost impossible to swithc back with a ton of dough.

HAVING SAID THAT: I'm a huge fan of the '57 DeSoto Fireflight 2DH. Has ANYBODY used PhotoShop to chop the top down on one of THOSE? Man! It should make it look like it's ready for blast-off!!!

James D. You out there, man?

Man OH man has it been a long time since I have seen any pictures of this car!!!

When we sold our 61 LeSabre, this picture went with the car, Mike couldn't stand to keep it, it would have been too hard to keep it, he hated selling the car, but just didn't have the know how to get our 61 to look like THIS!!!!

Thanks for bringing this one out.

A subtle chop would look great. Sectioning and lowering it will no make you happy.

I know this is an old thread.....but I had completely forgotten about this car.

I remember it from years ago, and it was a HUGE favorite of mine. Weird that I ended up painting my Olds the same color. The '57 delivery in the background was another favorite.

    buickbelle...

I just saw your post ! Thanks for locking-in the pic of my INVICTA. It's not chopped, doesn't need to be. Manuel built the car right...all the way through.

The hydraulics get it as low as you want to go, and it works just as it should. And looks perfect at any height.

NOW: Gary Howard DID chop Mike Young's '60 Impala, and you can hear him tell how it all came together, AND how difficult the chop was, just listen to his story on the HOFL Series at this link: http://www.legends.thewwbc.net/gpage136.html

Gary is an EXPERT at what he does !
