I would LOVE to have a set of Cyclone heads on my 33's engine. So I talked to Cyclone Kevin and he said it is possible to cast some up. They would run somwere around 1000.00 for a set. That is pretty much the going rate for a new set of 21 stud heads. I would buy a set. What I want to know, is there a market for them? How many people would actually buy these for the said 1000.00??

I'm sure 10-20 sets would easily sell if you did a numbered run WITH a cool box with vintage looking artwork. They were just discussing the availability of 21-stud heads at our shop today.

Not a bad idea JimA. Guys, these are not in the works or anything, I've just been buggin him to cast some up but he didn't know if it would be worth it. If we do want to do a list of FOR SURE sales, PM me and I'll try to get the ball rolling. I think if we came up with enough people it could happen.

Stuff is tricky to sell on the idea it will be made- if you had them available as I described the serious collectors would buy up the available sets in a week.

I love 21 studs if I had the cash I'd buy 3 or 4 sets and have a few running and a few for when he stopps again. I'm in chris, I needa call him back tomorrow and talk with him. My mcculloch needs some sweet heads!!! And I needa get a 32 5 window.....but I'm in chris for a set.

I see your point. Well, I'll see what I can do. I have no idea what kind of operation Kevin has, meaning how man sets have to be made to do a run. If he only had to do like 20-30 sets, probably no problem I would think. But if it were a lot more, than he may feel he would get stuck with them.

Jordan, instead of buying all those heads you should buy my 41 ;) But if it's a go, I'll mark you down for a set.

Wonder what would happen if they made 500 sets like the new heads with big water jackets using only 1 length of studs. Unit cost would go down, retail price could go down, market size would go up. Screw all this small run collectible ****, get the good stuff out there for everyone and make some real money.

Foundry's don't work like that. You can only pour so much in a 8 hour day.

Yes the price would go down but only $150-200 at the most on a finished set of heads...

Then who can afford to pay the foundry bill for 1000 heads at a cost of $250-275ea...???

Then you still have to machine them....

Here is the skinny guys, We could make both versions of the 21's,but it would be costly for me. Imagine tooling, to re-do what little I have, we're talking perhaps $12-15k to have permanent metal tooling like I have for the 24's and add the price of a limited run of castings,
Lets just say you do a run of 20 pairs of 32-36's Thats 20 lefts and 20 rights which make 40 castings then add in the 37-early 38 center necks that would be 40 castings to make 20 pairs. Gets real expensive real quick!

And then there is that nasty ol machining process. There is alot more to do on a 32-36's A face has to be cut for the water pumps and mounting holes drilled/tapped along with the other 25 bosses that need to be drilled and 4 spark plug bosses tapped, not to mention surface cutting and perhaps doming.
The 37's are much like the 24's so 3 less bosses there.

If there is a reason,we'll do it, but orders would need to locked in before I'd bite the bullet again, BTW OFFY will be on the block soon as Jim p***ed away a few weeks back and Tay will probably just let it go to the highest bidder. I heard that Holley was interested????????

The market can't be that big... the head that chris has in the photo was just on ebay supposedly nos, my father just bought it for $177. Though it isn't a pair. We bought for a spare for my brother in-law, he has a pair of og's. Kevin didn't you make a couple of sets at one time or I thought someone did.

I was bidding on it too, but I have seen sets up at about 1000.00. A single can't be worth much beings they are left and right only.

Kevin, if you ever decide to make a round, keep us me in mind :D

Out of curiosity, are the 21 stud Cyclone heads made to work with the early style flat top pistons?

I did the same thing with a pair of rare Clark headers for 216/235 Chevy; bought a n.o.s. rear header at a swap meet and, a couple months later, damned if I didn't find a n.o.s. front one!

You could get em either way.
In our 48 Catalog, They show em domed. The 37-8's show em without domes, then the domes are back in late 39's to 49's

    Hope this helps.

Seems that there would be a market for the lowly 21 studders, specially if you found a good block. They can be made to run good, they have gotten a bum rap for a long time, so if it has a good block it shud be built!
