Does anyone know of a lamp conversion for the E&J type 20 headlights? there is a guy in long beach ca. but for as long as I can remember he never has anything in stock. any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
A friend of mine has hammered some E&J look-a- likes out of sheet aluminum and they look great. He uses a small tractor bulb available in Canada from "Princess Auto" not sure if they'd fit a real E&J. Might be worth checking out some tractor supply places. Good Luck.
Since my pair was pieced together, I didn't have original sockets or bulbs or wiring. So I adapted a pair of late model halogen bulbs. I haven't installed them because my car isn't finished, but I put power to them and they seem OK. Plus once I get the reflector barrels re-silvered, they should be brighter.
33 Tudor, if you have the stock E&J Len's your going to find that the light pattern ****s even with the halogen bulb.
Aiming is everything. I tried a set of the H4 bulbs in mine. I only did one and did it on a fixed stand at night outside. You can move the bulb around and get some really good light. Problem is the H4's have a small deflector over the area that lights up. For low beams it will only shine in one direction. For high beams it shines all directions. I could get a blinding light out of the high beams but low beams didn't seem good enough. I went with a regular bulb and adjusted them like the instructions say. With the filters in they were still not what they should be. Without the filters they were pretty good. I liked the look of the filters. I think what you're looking for is a snowmobile bulb. I researched it once and had a number....lost it. It's a mid seventies snowmobile. Has high and low and is just about the right sizeto fit in the ring. It's just slightly larger than the original lenses. Clark
Wagner motor cycle sealed beam works - you have to silicone them. I cannot remember the model number but if you measure the opening and call a Wagner dealer they may be able to help. Cl***ical Gas used these in their fibergl*** E&J repros.
My E&Js have good reflectors and lenses so I just used a higher candle power 12 volt bulb and socket for better light (still not great), but here's an idea that I have been mulling over. Looking at my '58 Chevy and it's quad head lights, it looks like the smaller size of the headlamp would match up to the front half of the E&J's reflector. I was thinking that the high/low lamp might be the ticket. Mike
