What do you do when your favorite parts dealer comes to you and tells you he just bought a few truckloads of what was left over after the factory did it's last run? In this guy's case, there was 95% of the stuff there to build a "new" one from scratch - everything but a windshield, screws and a battery - and he DID it! The DMV even gave him a period VIN and registration! Here's the link to the full story: http://www.cl***icandperformancecar.com/features/octane_features/232332/new-age-e-type.html Sorry about the OT-ness, but something like this was just too cool not to share... I mean, he even had an immaculate OEM exhaust, and "new" old tyres! ~Jason
I have a Jaguar xj6 so this was good to see, but wouldn't this be a extra cool with your favorite flavour car, like a 32 ford 3 window, and so on....
Very Cool... I loved my E-type...! My friend had a 69 Hemi Daytona Dodge Charger with a 4 speed and had purchased enough NOS parts to build another 1 1/2 complete Hemi Daytona Dodge Chargers. Recently sold his low mileage Daytona for $890K but I believe he still has the parts...!
That is so cool! (But didn't I read somewhere you can build a complete Model A Ford from reproduction parts, you don't need a sinlge original bit?) Cheers, Glen.
Thanks for the link - that's pretty impressive. I remember someone did the same thing with a Morris minor some years ago. Mart.
I saw an odd Jag roadster at a motel in Manistee Michigan a few years back. Went for a looksee and it was an XK-SS. I think it was on loan to a Ford exec and he had it up there salmon fishing. It was an incredible piece and i think there are maybe 6 in existance. Love them old jags.
thats pretty amazing, I see he said it was a joy to build given everything was from the factory rather then repro parts. makes you wonder what else is out there lurking in someones garage/storage unit.. you just need to keep your eyes and ears open.
Anybody in Detroit wanna keep an eye out for my Uncle's red '63 E-type? Supposedly he gave it to an mechanic "friend" to restore a few years ago and they were going to sell it and split the profits... He hasn't heard from the guy in a while.
That was a cool story. Thanks for sharing. I love my E-type, and it will never leave my hands. 1970 Series 2 Fixed-Head Coupe. Good condition driver, as they should be. An E-type is a fabulous car to drive. Silver with Red leather, built October 30, 1969, all correct components as confirmed by Jaguar Heritage Trust. In the group pic, mine is the Series 2 on the right. Pete
When I first saw an E type dricing down the street, I thought to myself "They may as well stop buliding new cars. That is as nice as a car can get." And I oened a '39 coup and a '34 3 widow at the time.
Wow... that echoes the same thoughts I had the first time I saw one! It's said that Sir William Lyons, head of Jaguar, would flirt with the young girls and tell them that it's body lines were based on an unsolved equation of an as-yet-unnamed 15th century Polish mathematician! He was a character all right, and got lots of girls... and this man was approaching his 70s at the time! ~Jason
