My boss has been holding on to a bunch of body tools that he bought from an old body man that were used through the 50's and 60's. I was told I could have my pick of the tools that were there and I came across this. I was told it was gold and that you cant buy them anymore. It is very useful and has helped me out alot already. The only problem is that nobody can seem to tell the name of it. What is it?
Just a body "s****" or "Dollie" works well in odd to get places. I'm pretty sure you could still purchase it new.
i have kind of seen the shape before almost looks like somthing used to pull tires off rims, there was alot manuel tools before the machines just my 2cents but it is cool !
I'll second the body s**** as well. They are used to act as a dolly in very tight and inaccessible spaces, like behind a body brace or in between wheel wells and fenders.
yeah it's a body s****, i have 2 of them i got when i bought a bunch of stuff off an old body man about 30 years ago. before all the power tools they used to make a lot more sizes and shapes of tools. also in the 50's on back there where alot more curves on cars so there was more use for odd shapes, now everything is flat and square.
Hey, The tool you've pictured is a double-ended door and side apron s****. These were designed for use behind inner reinforcements, and will reach into the deep sides of fender aprons. They can also be used as a wedge type dolly. This one was probably made by Porter Fergeson or Fairmont Tool Co. S****ey Devils C.C. "Meanwhile, back aboard The Tainted Pork"
The tool man that came into the panel shop every month sold them, s**** dollie's are way useful even for me and I **** severely at bodywork! I have one like that and on that is just the shallow curve end, Id put a hunnert bucks on yours being a better quality tool though! Doc.
Thanks guys, i knew it was a body s**** of some sort and thats how i have been using it. It's great, i was just wondering if it had a special name but i guess not.
It's a body s****, and I have one similar to it that I bought maybe five years ago. Yours looks like a nice one though, and a good tool to have.
I use mine mostly for getting at those hard to reach places too... like the middle of my back or behind the work bench.
