what do you guys prefer? my buicks all original and rebuilt but i dunno how long it will remain reliable theres been a fuel starvation problem lately. everythings original and rebuilt, carb, starter, generator, fuel pump, she runs but im thinkin of takign the custom route. opinions? what do you guys see.
its got the original 322 nailhead. but like i said everything is original. im considering replacing some **** for more reliability.
The problem is not that nailhead. Don't repace the engine because of a fuel problem. I like my Buick with all the chrome on it. Since yours is gone, flames or scallops would be the logical move.
All the chrome, no handles or emblems. Low, purple primer (maybe some flake) wide whites and wire wheels. Can't miss with that.
now your on to somethin with this idea sounds cl***y! id leave that motor in there maybe just freshen her up a bit
you guys need to read... I think he's asking if he should leave under the hood stock or go through the speedway catolog and freshin up his block with modern electronics filters and such.
PLEASE...no flat colors...customs should be shiny, glossy...!!! Keep the original nailhead, clean it up, paint it up and add some chrome goodies...custom engine compartments are not seen that much anyway...when "showing" your car, keep everything closed, it shows off the lines better. Do the interior in R's & P's, lower the car and add wide whites and hubcaps...nose it, deck it, remove all emblems and door handles. Modify the grille and paint the car...any color as long as it's not black...!!! A two tone would look better on a custom. R-
Geees - I think you're choppin' here, but no chips are flyin' ... Fix the fuel problem, custom or otherwise. Just keep the original stuff for later if you want. It ain't no good if it don't run right. Sounds like maybe a restricted fuel line? Like, maybe some rust or corrosion in the steel line, or a pinched or partially collapsed hose? I've seen both. Does it have a "sock" filter/screen on the pickup tube in the fuel tank ? I don't know about those old Buicks but I've seen it many times on Fords where those pickup tube screens caused many a headache. And if you didn't douche out the tank, that might be the culprit. I've seen it where cars would sit and idle just fine, but put a load on 'em and they'd starve for fuel. Double walled or braided rubber fuel lines can rupture inside. Again, the car will idle but as soon as a bit of pressure (fuel pump kicks in) - the hose collapses inside, restricting flow. Not even worth 2cents' advice, just something to maybe check. Hope it works. Now, about that flat, chromelessness. . . ------------------------------
