Howdy Tim here. I had added this to my other update post but its probably better on its own. I have decided to go with the cone type headers that you see all the time and probably the ones that you can buy from speedway. I know that they come with some bent pipe to attatch to the block. Are holes cut already in the cones?...is this a really stupid question. The reason I ask is because I will need to do some routing around the steering. I would immagine that it would be better if they holes were not cut so you can put them where you need...again this may be a given but I have not seen these before installation. Here's a pic of the steering and the side that is in question.

Thanks for any help on this.

You know way too much about our abilities to suggest such a thing. Though they are what I am going for in a cone shape. I also want to add the cutout for the exhaust to go under the car.

I know, and that's why you should copy what flt-blk did. He bought the cones from Speedway and adapted them to the Stude motor. Sinner's got the skills to pay the bills, man...

Take some fine steel wool or a scotch brite pad to that copper... then hit it with maybe chrome polish... and those pipes will look REEEEL nice!

I planned on polishing them up after I was done touching them. Any other thoughts on the water pressure?

I have purchased and built a few sets for sbc motors but not a Flattie . I would assume except for flanges they are the same. The headers come with 8 bent tubes 2 block or head flanges,2 long cones(drill or cut your own holes) and 4 collector flanges(weld on's).So itshuold be easy to work around your steering column. water pressure should never exceed 20 or 25 psi since those are the highest end of the scale on pressure caps. But copper and solder don't like vibration all that much so I'd think you want to keep the length of copper to a bare minimum.

Pressure will be fine. Depending on how you attach it, the vibes may be your undoing (as mentioned above).

I'd use some rubber hoses and just do one length of tubing between the two so there's no joints. Like this (but in copper).

If you want, I can get you a couple of pieces of the twisted tubing that we rep. It will give you more surface area (better cooling) but won't go with your period correct theme.

Do you have that copper stuff that thick? Can you bend the copper stuff so I would not have the joints?

By thick do you mean diameter or wall thickness? What's the diameter on those pipes anyway, 2"? I can get that. It's bendable and I think it would look pretty slick. It might mess up your 50's theme, though. Get me an OD measurement and a length and I'll see what I can get for you. I can get stainless, aluminum (anodized even), copper, cupro-nickel....

  17. MBL, If you use the tech in Jethro's post, my buddy One-eye just bought one of the Harbor Freight 40" Sheetmetal brake/sliproller/shears. works up to 18g. He also has Draglinkscc's old plasma cutter. He let's me borrow his tools (I'm one of the few). If you want to save a few bucks and have some sheet metal to use, send me a PM next week.

Unless you have a couple of 36 driveshafts laying around. I think I have 1.

I found those tubes where Bigums had pointed them out...I think thats a pretty good deal for them. I might get the flanges....the Walker 31926 ones...I think those are right....and some pipe from the parts store....as far as the copper...its only 1 inch...but if you can get bigger that would be cool to. Give me a call if you can and we'll talk about the copper deal.
    thanks

That Walker part # I posted.....I have no idea where I got that from now...can anyone confirm that it is indeed the header flange that will work for the application?
    Thanks

  20. Anybody needing a pattern for cones can post the small end dia., large end dia., and the overall length and I'll post a sketch of a flat pattern. You'll have to roll them yourselves however..... [IMG]
