Ok so I started on saturday and the ol' lady was pissed by Saturday night so I didn't get shit done sunday I will be back on it this evening. Let me know what you thing I have tough skin. First layout marked up to cut out 4 1/2 inches Front Then started by taking out the B Pillars Then off with her head, we are doing things a little different for the rear I love the wrap around rear window so we are keeping it We ended up cutting that 4 1/2 out of the flat down in the rear window and bringing the top of the rear back onto the frame and had to take another 2 out of it so a total of 6 1/2 out of the rear window. It will be put back in once I am done with the A section. Back on for fitting then we used to 4 inch sections of angle stock and cut the one edge down to slide into the A pillar for extra support and good alignment once back on. Now with the Roof back on and A's tacked into place Just some added pics for overall look So basically all the easy stuff is done and its on to the fun. I do have to definitely give thanks to my friends Ryan, Joe, Rex and Jason for all the hard work helping me get it this far on Saturday. I will try to keep this as updated as possible but I will be a little busy working to be posting she has to get back on the road!
looks good i would love to do that but i dont have the guts to put the knife to Vicki . What are you going to do for glass that is my big hurdle . keep up the posts
My friend has a killer glass guy that will come to the house and "guarantee" the glass that he cuts, he did my friends 53 Chevy and it looks killer. Its just gonna cost me around an arm and a leg for the rear wrap around glass. The rear is gonna be a whole other animal in its self.
send your wife to her familys house for the weekend, and convince her its her idea.. the progress on the chop will now go much faster. gary
Oh yeah tell me about it, I wish I could only her family is in Florida, so I used the old "you know this would be a great weekend for you to spend that time with your friend and the kids that you've been wanting" but worded so nicely it came across as her idea.
Hey, I hate to be the one to shit on your plate, and tell ya it's fudge, but what are your plans for the back light? You, no doubt know that it's tempered glass and not laminated, and therefore can't be cut down? Are you going to sink it into the package shelf, or go with a glass and frame outa another vehicle? I like the look of your shoe so far! Swankey Devils C.C. "Meanwhile, back aboard The Tainted Pork"
I've got a couple of different plans right now I am just kind of playing it piece by piece but I do have a shoebox surround standing by just in case.
Thats going to be KOOL! Have you ever chopped a car before? If not you are doing one bang up job! Keep us posted!
Yeah BUSTED!! This is my first chop by myself (with good friends to help) but it is one hell of a learning experience and I can't wait to be finished and start the next one. All the extremely talented post here on the HAMB have been an astonishing help as well. Thank you for the kind words.
I've heard from the ol'timers, "there is always someone out there who can fix your F-up, just better have some money"!
Easy now, the only person fixing anything will be me. And as far as taking the cutting wheel to something stock this thing was pretty far from stock when I got it, no trim, 302 engine, c4 tranny, amongst plenty of other after era parts, not to mention the lovely red rims
Alright guys I'm super sorry its been so long since I posted, life has a tendency to get in the way and the car got put off for a couple of months but now the car is actually getting ready for paint and the glass guy is coming by on sat. These pics are a little old I will get some new ones up hopefully on Monday. Sorry its not fully up to date but I will do the best I can getting more current pics up.
I think it looks great and you are doing a good job.... just hope you don't want to see much out of the back window.....
Thank you HotRod33, kind words are always encouraging. I'm pretty happy with the way it turned out and can't wait to be finished, I recently acquired a 51 ford that is just waiting to be done.
life can get in the way but here is a pic prior to primer I'll get more up after I finsh moving and no that is not my ford in the background it's a friends
Thank you and there was a point I felt I whacked a little too much out of it but I'm happy the way it turned out as well
I dig it and give you an A for your effort. I just think the rear window is a little to small for my taste. But hey what the hell do I know!
You know to be honest I agree with you and I almost cut it out and put a shoebox frame in it but I decided to leave it just for the little bit of originality in it
you did a nice job with the proportions and the actual work,,,funny how after you get one under your belt, you can't wait to do another!..
