well... after checking out 4 sheet metal shops I can't find anyone who can make the rolled outer edge for (step) bed sides. I thought one guy was gonna sick his poodels on me! Seems he only works in stainless. Need to find someone in the SF Bay Area (or anywhere if your willing to put it on a bus) who can make a tight slip roll in 16g that is 56" long. Any leads?

Check the tech archives, Brian Angus I believe did a tech on the bed for his roadster pick up (along with a lot of other useful stuff)

it takes special tooling, there not rolled there done on a press brake, its a three step process, not something most shops would do because of the cost of the tooling.

i welded a tube to the edge of the bed..

it worked better than I would have thought..

doing it right is a multi step process.. and requires a press brake.. with tooling most places dont have..

When I make my bedsides I use 1.5"exhaust tubing for rolled edge.

    Slip roll won't do it.

square tubes can be done without special tooling, well you need a goose neck punch but thats pretty common.

i had a local machine shop in town make me some lower model a box patches for the entire botom side of a box , he did them in one hit , i believe he made his own dies though, uses a piece of angle iron and a piece of pipe the desired size of the radius then presses the pipe down into the angle iron forming the radius

I welded rigid conduit onto newly bent side panels then metal finished the weld. The new box is on the restored 42 Dodge pickup pictured in my albums.

Thanks for the link... I couldn't pull it up by just the name. Beautiful work by a very talented guy! Not something that I could pull off if I had the equipment, mush less the talent! Keeping it on the KISS engineering scale I made a simple line drawing of the end view of the panels I need. The supporting frame work is done and a built in tool box are is the mock-up stage. I'd like to keep moving forward while the fire is hot on this one. The exhaust tube idea is a good one, and may end up being a last resort.
