Anybody know of a good media blaster to strip and prep a truck frame for me for paint that is not too far from the Berkeley/Oakland, CA area? Just looking for a blasting for now and can amateur paint myself. But, if I can get a good prime and paint as well for not too bad of a price, I would be into that too. Just is a simple stock 1-ton truck frame and will be just chassis black final paint. Looking for decent paint job, but doesn't need to be "show" quality perfect (and definitely won't be if I have to do it :D). If anyone has any suggestions, would be appreciated. Hell, even just a truck repair place would be totally fine probably if they do their own chassis repair/paint. Thanks!

Try Myers Sandblasting, located in Oakland (510) 638-0444. I have taken several items in the past and so have many of my freinds.

Great, thanks, will give them a call on Monday.

Very nice looking car in your avatar by the way. How about posting some more info on that for us?

Just spoke to a guy at Meyers and they do seem like a good possibility.

Now, just need to figure out how to get my truck frame over to them.

Anybody got any good references for towing for the Oakland/Berkeley area? Would need a roll back as the chassis is stripped and not a roller. I have a good guy, but he is pretty expensive. Hoping to find someone else good and reliable, but more budget friendly. All the towing here and there for this project is really adding up to a pile of cash. If there is a hamb member that does that, even better.

  8. Yeah, Myers (or is it Meyers) in Oakland is a good place, and pretty decent prices. They did a nice job on my truck cab. They use glass beads. You might have to wait a little while depending on how busy they are.

It's in a pretty bad neighborhood. I saw two different burned down crack houses with crime scene tapes around them a block away from there when I went there last time. Bring a cell phone so you can get them to open the gates for you when you get there.

When you're there, check out the nice collection of antique pinup girl posters that surrounds the inside of the building.

  9. Hey, if all you're doing is a truck frame, there's a good sandblasting place in Fremont that'll do it for about $100 - 150 in a couple of hours. They mainly work on big trucks. It's called Skil-Painting and their address is 42300 Boyce Road, in Fremont. (510) 651-0210. The guy is a little tough to get hold of on the phone, but it's a good place. He's done a couple of frames for me. Sandblasting does a good job of digging out deep pockets of rust. It's a little rough for sheet metal, but fine for a frame.

I'm not sure, but I think they might do priming for you too.

Hmm, maybe I will give Skil-Painting a call too. Would be nice if they can blast it clean, prime it and then give it back to me ready for some finally chassis black. I am not a painter, so saving the priming step might be helpful. I am hoping to be able to at least swing a few coats of satin black.

Thanks for the heads up on the hood. I'll make sure to call them before I head over so they can let me in pronto. :)
