I like it! Not crazy about the IFS personally, BUT..........that means NOTHING. I love the overall look and choice of colors. I'd drive it with a smile ear to ear Nice job! Tony
The right direction? Hell yes!! That's a nice little truck. I'm a tube axle guy myself, but the IFS is OK as long as it's covered with fenders. Can't argue with the ride. Just curious. Are you useing a panhard bar on the rear end?
Looks real good... I dont think you need a pan hard bar with a triangulated 4 bar. I could be wrong so let me know cause i am using the same set up.
I was told the 4 bar rear will work just fine.I am running commercial headlights with the turn signals in side.
Yeah, but those fenders don't cover it, dropped axle would have looked better but to each his own. I like earlier Chevy's, but the center bolts just don't do it for me in that truck. Otherwise, very nice truck.
Unless it is a triangulated 4 bar, you must have a Panhard bar to keep the rear centered in the frame. By the way, I love your truck, independent front end and all!!!
Very nice. You will be fine with the 4 link, no panhard bar needed on your triangulated bars. Don't listen to the guys *****in' about putting a chevy in it. Sure, they're common in rods but they're like that for a reason! Clean build. Good luck!
just remember.....you asked.... Don't like the IFS, don't like the coil-over rear end, is that a TCI ch***is? The cab is stretched too isn't it? Throws the proportions off. The rounded door corners and shaved driprail are a little odd, especially for a hot rod. The color, stance, and wheel/tire combo look alright.
I had IFS in my sedan and a ford solid rear. Going down the road hitting bumps, it would give in the front and be too firm in the back, creating a weird front-to-rear rocking, bounce. To do over again I would do solid front and rear or IFS/IRS, but not both. NICE truck! Very clean...
Thanks for the comments.I know I asked .This is what I wanted to hear.Fired it up last night for the first time, not to many problems. The cab is stretched 3 in the door and 5 in the back of the cab.Should be rolling down the road shortly.
I actually like the way you stretched the cab, I stretched my '36 4", along with a chop and channel, I'm 6'5" so without the stretch I wouldn't have fit. Your's looks comfortable to me. Sometimes we got to make concessions.
Even though covered by the front fenders, not crazy about the IFS. Also not crazy about tire sticking out past the wheel wells in the back. That's just me though and opinions are like ***holes ya know. With that said very good looking little truck that's being built to be driven it looks like. That's what it's bout right there. Good job!
hmmm....my first post on here! ill try not to be a ****...but its tough. i do love straight axles, alternate engines,etc...... but yours has i.f.s so it will ride and handle better....it has disks so it will stop better.......and it has a small block chevy so you could rebuilt it in the auto department at wallyworld at 3am....so my opionion...when ya drive by my shop waving out the window if its in primer,painted,whatever.......it will be perfect........face it we got so many unfinished projects just to see one done and driving gives hope......lol btw do i like everything about your truck.....nope.....but it dont matter what i think....its your truck done your way...
Looks good. If the IFS worries you, paint it black and that'll hide it. Keep it up, a lot of good work there for a first timer. Michael
I like it. If you get your spring rates right you will not have any of the problems that 32sedan had since cars and trucks both have been build for many years with a solid rear axle and IFS front. If it was mine, I would have the front suspension powder coated semi flat black just to clean up the look in the front - then again opinions are like bung holes and we all have them. Other than that, looks a heck of a lot farther than anything I am working on. Enjoy the ride.
Dammit good everyone be a little more negative. Your first Hot Rod huh! It looks pretty decent. Not a purist Era correct car....but was that what you were going for ...or a Hot Rod you could drive? ! I'd say drive. Nice touch on the cab stretch. The only thing I can say negative about it is the bowtie powerplant. If you can stretch a cab..you can modify a fire wall.
I think it's a nice, clean little truck that'll be comfortable to drive, (so it'll probably get driven) and be dependable at the same time. No you went totaly the wrong direction. You should sell it and build something ugly, uncomfortable and undrivable I like the proportions of it along with everything else about it. Now all you need to do is get the AC hooked up and piss off all the purists.
I sat in Big Ken's truck the other day...and I understand the stretch on the cab. Hot Rod's shouldn't kill you to drive them. I haven't drove a hot rod with a straight axle so I don't know what they drive or handle like. I like disk brakes...my Dart didn't have them and it was crazy to stop. Form or Function...that is the question...where do you draw the line.
I think it's a cool little truck. I'd put a axle up in front, but she ain't mine, she's yours. Tire and wheel combo works very well. Drive the hell out of it, man! You're doing a great job.
