My family has just about given up Christmas shopping for me. I've gotten to where I list catalogs, page, and part numbers for them. This year with the digger and my parts list it's pretty much the same thing, except the odd Ebay score I win and then tell them to hide and wrap. Like this. I just won this tonight. A repop but it looks great and I needed it for the Weiand blower cover w/integral snout for the digger. Is it just me? Merry Christmas!!!
Happens all the time around here. I expect within the next week or so for my Mom to hand me her credit card and tell me to order the Coker WWW tires I need for Big Olds. They are on my list and just a couple of days ago she asked me how much they are. I got new front Cokers for my birthday this year.
I don't really shop for myself, or other people. I don't really Christmas shop. I don't have any money, so how could I? I need to work on all three of those.
No. I make some suggestions, but they know I like car stuff and often come up with things I wouldn't think of-my kids have given me old road signs, a handmade bird house with a license plate roof, '32 license plates and even sponsored the restoration of a one of a kind headlight (see below) in my name. And I HATE knowing what I am getting beforehand.
I e-mail my girlfriend all the sites with what i want and how much and i tell her exactly what i want and she does the same for me. So i am both suprised at what i get but i know its what i want. Its easier to just say exactly what you want insted of guessing and "acting" like you like it
I ain't saying, but Santa has sliped a few things under the tree that nobody knew about and I always act like I don't know anything about it,,,the see through me but I get what I want that way! Matter of fact,,I just ordered a couple of things from the Hamb store that will end up in Christmas wrap,,,for ME! HRP
My birthday is in November, so I got A Gennie shifter (which I purchased) as a birthday/Christmas gift from my wife.
Just got myself a Black & Decker cordless rechargeable LED trouble light at Lowe's. Just thinking about it, no more red-hot metal cage, no cord to jam under the creeper's wheels, no constant replacement of the bulb, puts me in the Christmas spirit! (PS only $30 too)
You don't buy stuff for yourself and give it to yourself..you give it to the wife, or kids. They won't want it, and they give it to you. You are just trying to include them in your hobby..
No, we are on the Dave plan..........www.daveramsey.com............I take pride int the fact that my lunch each day costs $1. We set a family limit of $10, brother is on here so I can not say more.
We are tring something different this year. The wife just told me my limit and i buy my own gifts off of ebay. That way everyone is happy.
I cant afford to shop for my better half. I dont let her buy for me either..... we blow it all on the kids
Like the others have said, it's easier to make out a list and have the wife order it online or Ebay. I did have to order back issuses of the Rodder Journal. She tried to order them on line last year and could never get the site to set up an account. So I bit the bullet and phone ordered them. It is tuff when they come in the mail to have to wait. Getting a lot of DVD's this year, Home Improvement, arrrrrrr. Monk, So Cal hot rods. Also asked for cool books, Mickey Thompson story and a Bonneville Book. Put in for it but don't know if I'll get it, The cool SoCal Roadster Leather Jacket. Always wanted one, but a lot of bucks. Hope you all have a great Christmas, and get really cool stuff.
I told the wife and sons that I need some new dash gauges so I hope Santa comes through.I'm thinking about getting the little mrs.that new Snap-On air ratchet we've been lookin at for her.
My wife didn't know what to get me so I ordered myself a hot rod book from Don Montgomery and he autographed it and I paid by paypal. Easy as pie.
This year my wife and I are giving us a new mattress. Ain't that romantic? And each of us gets to buy something in a specific price range for ourselves. I bought a freshly dropped 33-36 Ford front axle.
God yes. Wife & Daughter think i'm a retard. But I find something I like before Xmas take it home and tell them to wrap it up and put in under the tree. Works for me. PS I always act surprised and thank them for picking the "best present ever"
My wife has learned to just get me a Northern Tool gift card and let me go get my own stuff. She also buys for the rest of the family which is great because when everybody comes over to open presents I'm as surprised as they are.
yes, of course. I even get her car/motorcycle parts for me on her birthday " because I know she would want me to have that" I just bought a new rifle yesterday for my X-mas gift from her, she can get me an optic or a scope for it closer to X-mas.
Chrismas time for me is like when I was a kid and asked for toys and got clothes!!!!!! I've asked for nomex underwear 3 years running - nada. They all tell me I am HARD to buy for!?!?!?!? Which I'll never understand - being a car guy makes me easy to buy for - we always need something -even if it's sandpaper, files, drill bits, etc etc. Last year my wife bought me a trans shield for the digger - so no complaints there. My favorite sister-in-law bought me welding gloves one year - she rocks!!!!!! Seems like the noncar people are perplexed by all aspects of this hobby - oh well I guess I can use another pair of nylon snow gloves.........
Nope, not just you. I have bought my own Christmas gifts for many years. I order them and when they arrive I hand the unopened shipping box to my wife and tell her to wrap it up and that's it's from her to me.
As many as my wife will let me. Going to Omaha tomarrow to look a 30 model a truck and yes my wife is going. Hope she gets it for me.
Gotta say most of you dudes are pretty sad. The joy of giving presents is the fun of knowing another person, thinking of something they'd really like, finding an inspiration and watching the surprise and pleasure on their face when they open your gift. If you are getting what you told them to buy, what's the point? They don't know you or care enough to come up with something? There's no Christmas there, you're just another American consumer collecting stuff. Merry Christmas to you all, think I'm done on this thread.
Then take your ball and go home. I was listening to the radio a few days ago and realized that with the tough economy I bet charities are struggling and feeling it too, and this might be a pretty big time for them. I told my girlfriend I really dont want us to spend much money on each other, instead there is a county animal shelter down the road from us, Im going to contact them next week and see what we can do there, supplies, etc. She may have bought me obligitory yet well thought out presents, but I doubt I would forget this ever.
