Oh yeah,,,I did that on my wifes wagon,,,, This is a photo of the cross section I used as a pattern,,, Lotta work but pays off in the long run,,,HRP
I'm a tri-annual lurker at this point since I typically have 8 other hobbies going on at a time and rarely think to hit the HAMB to check on all of you much more highlymotivated individuals. I just keep my '54 Mainline running and I like it fully stock because I enjoy driving it that way. Plus it's a 4 door, so it makes little sense to dump money into it. I still drive it regularly and it never lets me down. Here's a cheesy video of me driving it around for the first time in 2008 (it was a crappy winter here in Iowa!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VfYjGiN-JBc
Im going with a dark burgundy. Ive been kicking it around for a while now. I think one more run with the block and Im ready to go, Its gonna look nice!
I have a new found love for these cars. I think it was the first time that I seen Jimmy Vaughn's '54 Victoria. It's probably the nicest car I have ever seen, and my wife agrees. She wants to get a '54 now!!!! Awesome cars guys.
I bought a running, original '53 Ford Crestline Sunliner in 1973 for $125.00. Thirty-five years later I still own the '53. She's in line for her second restoration, I've got another Flathead for her, just got to find the time...
Here are some pics of my dad's '54 Sunliner. It was a solid straight Colorado car, original red, 239 Ford-O-Matic, p/s, power top, power seat car. Now has 351w, C4, 8 inch rear. It has many subtle cutomizing mods by award winning Merlin Berg. http://www.jacksfords.freeservers.com
What size tires are you running, mine has some crapy truck size tires and i'm trying to figure out what would look right, and with the drop I did I'm haveing rub issues. Blake
I started a thread on this some time back. Heaps of good photos. Mine is the first one, soon to be sold http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=93370&highlight=flatattack
<----------- Bought it while in high school in 1989. It had a 6 cylinder and not one straight body panel. It has changed colors a bunch of time and now has a warmed over 312 with overdrive. There still isn't a straight panel, but it is better than it was.....
I was 52-54 Ford'n when they weren't cool. Bought my first 54 when I was 15 in '73, a 2 door, then bought a 54 Vicky when I was 16. Kept the Vic all these years, never got it done, and now my #1 nephew owns it. (You go Shaun) These cars are the black sheep of the custom world, but we custom guys are black sheep anyway. I love J.V's 54, of course Jimmy V. has always been a little off the deep end. (J.V. you is still kewl in my diary) Right now I'm looking for a decent 52-54 Courier (sedan delivery) project or one running. Will trade my new-old school 92 Buick sedan delivery for a good one. (see pic below) I know, it isn't the stuff we normally do, but it is unusual and thats what we are all about, right! Mikey wwwMikeysPinstriping.com "I Do Bad Things to Good Cars...and Stupid People"
My car as it sits right now. The grill is gonna get floated soon, and hopefully the car will be in a single shade of primer soon.
I have the Mainline 2 dr sedan that my grandfather bought new in 1954. I rebuilt the 239, added 3 deuces and got overdrive for it. No pics
Bought the blue 54 in '73, now my nephew has it. Traded the 52 Courier for a new set of Torq's and tires for my 56 Chev wagon. Mikey www.MikeysPinstriping.com
Well, Im not a 54 Ford owner, not any longer. But I was for 17 years. Brought a real nice 54 back in 1989, drove it two years. Then a drug dealer in a Volvo drove into my car... I began to restore it and customize it. To make a long story short, it was never finished. As a matter of fact, the major part of the custom build was still to be done when I sold it to a friend. He chopped it, and did finish the build into a 2d as well as the sectioning (I've only made a few cuts when I sold it). Here are a few pics of it: http://public.fotki.com/RPW/1/previously-owned-cars-1/54-ford-customline/
'63 ford big car is almost a bolt in. '60-64 are probably the same or similar. have the positioning tooth machined out of the '54 pitman arm, and it will work on the '63 box. you will have to change or modify stock column, as the '63 uses a rag joint. made my pal's '54 drive SO MUCH BETTER, but don't know if this will help with your clearance problem. the car we did runs a sbf.
