OK, I wasn't going to do this because I usually let people decide for themselves and make their own decisions. Over Thanksgiving, I went down to Cl***ic Cars of South Carolina to look at a all original 55 Coupe deville. Beautiful in pictures! Yellow, it's all there. Car looks sweet. I'm planning on driving this car home. Ron his name is wants 20k but I'm willing to pay 18k if it's the real deal. So you can imagine, eleven hour drive from Detroit down to see this car. :)Bad *** cream color caddy's dancing around in my head and the photo's from the internet just engraved in my head. Well I didn't drive down, I flew because I was gonna drive the car home. I go over to the s**** yard Ron calls a car lot and as I'm walking up to the trailer he operates his buisness from I see it! My eyes widen as I appproach and as I get closer my face goes from excited to dismal. I get up on the car and start my inspection before little Ron comes out to meet me and discuss the car. This Cadillac was sitting on four flat tires. Cracked paint, doors that didin't shut correctly. A horrible rebuild on the engine. Some retard painted the valve covers dayglo orange! I was thinking to myself all is not lost. It's not the gem that I was planning on buying but I'll probably get it cheaper and then I can have some fun cleaning the car up and getting it the way I want it. After talking to Ronnie about the car I offered him 12K. He said "NO, But I'll take 18k." After walking around and looking at some other heaps of junk on his lot I started to get furious! He false advertised his car showing this car on the internet from when he bought it in SoCal 10 years ago. I swear it took all the power in me not to lite this guy up. For false advertising. If I had made the drive from Detroit for this car and he pulled this **** on me I would probably be in jail right now. I'm still angry about it. I was actually down there to see my sister for Thanksgiving so I looked at my Dad and Brother in Law and said, screw it, I'll let this dillusional ******* sit on this car for the rest of his life. I would like to WARN HAMBER'S about CL***IC CARS OF SOUTH CAROLINA. :mad:FALSE ADVERTISING! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME ON THIS GUY! He shared with me some information that he's shipping lots of cars and parts to the Aussie's and New Zealanders. That made me even happier. I didn't tell him this but the boom is over and they aren't going to be buying any americana anytime soon. I did tell him about the HAMB and I hope he looks on here and see's this Thread so he knows how infuriated I was after his little stunt. Ron if you read this, you might want to change those pictures you have on Cl***ic Cars.com of the 55 Cadillac. OK I'm done, just want to help someone else out who might ever run across this junkyard called CL***IC CARS OF SOUTH CAROLINA. WARNING!

Wish I would have known you were going to visit. I would have warned ya! Six months ago I walked all over his lot, front to back. There might have been 2 cars on the whole lot I would have even considered buying. Even those 2 were grossly overpriced. Yes, I remember seeing the Caddy you mentioned... it don't look too bad from the highway, just don't get any closer! Asked a few guys I know in Spartanburg about this guy. None of 'em will deal with him... nothing but a crook.

Thanks for the info. Hope it puts this ******* out of business. What is his E-Bay rating? I'll bet it is 100% just like almost everyone else.

Well, you got off easy.I always tell people the best money you can waste is on a plane ticket. Sometimes they prey on the fact that people have driven a long distance and hate to go home empty handed.I've met people who were quite honest and just inadvertently misadvertized their vehicle.
It really P's me off is when people pull this ****.
I learned a long time ago, pictures are the best way to lie.

Sorry to hear about your trip. I made a trip to North Carolina 2 months ago to look at a 50 Chevy coupe. Talked to the guy multiple times, had a seen a few pictures, etc. I was ***ured this was a prime example of '50 Chevy. Any rust was replaced wth new metal("better than when it left the factory" were his exact words...should've been a red flag right there), brand new white vinyl tuck and roll interior, straight as gl*** body, all trim, gl***, 2-stage etc. just needed the motor put back in. Even told me to bring a magnet as all there was no bondo under the fresh paint. I drive 5.5 hrs, pull in, take two steps from my truck...im more than 30 feet rom the car.... and immediatly tell my buddy were going home with an empty trailer. Oh the rust was all fixed with galvanized, he hadnt lied about the bondo....it was pretty obvious there was none in it....i probably could have surfed on the drivers door, the "2-stage" paint was Rustolem with clear over it, and the interior sure was new...10 years prior. He just forgot to mention that it had been sitting on the dirt floor of his 2.5 walled shed for years. I drove 5.5 hours there, stuck around for 10 minutes and turned around and hauled an empty trailer home another 5.5 hours.

pic will lie to you . i have made to many long drives for nothing now i have them make a video of the car and send it to me you can ask for any shots and here it run also the best way to sell one

  9. been over to his place a few times. never bought a thing from him & never will. On one trip with a couple of friends & fellow HAMB'ers I was looking at an old Buick when his so-called mechanic came almost running from one side of his lot to the other where I was yelling at the top of his lungs for me not to touch his cars & that I needed to respect his cl***ic "cars" (read pieces of ****). Who knew that your not supposed to look inside a car your thinkin of buying. unfortunatly there are too many ****ers with too much $$$ that keep this ****er in business.

I'm surprised more people don't pay a local appraiser or a local HAMBer to do an inspection before they travel.

Could you imagine if you bought it from looking at the pictures and had it delivered?!! I have been tempted to bid on some cars on Ebay but I know that things sometimes aren't what they appear to be in the pictures. I don't trust peoples opinions of cars especially the person selling it. You did the right thing in going to look at the car. Thanks for posting!

another reason why I NEVER, buy a car without seeing it ..touching it..and if possible driving it..i usually carry a magnet with me too..not a very strong one..like those your wife has holding notes on the fridge..if that ****er dont stick it aint steel behind that paint.
Trust what you see, feel ,taste and hold...only.

this way if you take it..and are not satisfied, you have no one to ***** out, but yourself

sounds like you did the right thing..just turn and walk away..and than warn your fellow man

Sorry to hear of your problems, wish you would have posted asking if anyone was living in the Gray Court, SC area prior to coming down - we would have been glad to go down and look at the Caddy for you. I'm sure we would have been surprised when we saw the actual car vs. the pictures.

I guess everybody has a story, huh? There's a guy in Springdale, Arkansas that advertises in Old Car Trader a lot. I called him about buying a '57 Chevy and he describes his car for me. Brand new paint, nice interior, rust-free, etc. Trust me, I ask the right questions. Anyhow, I drove 17 1/2 hours from South Georgia to look at a "rust-free" '57 Chevy. When I crawled under it, I realized what he meant... He meant that if I paid him for the car, the rust is free. I thought the trip out there was long... the trip back was a lot worse! I forget what the name of his chop shop was, but he he guy goes by the name F.E. Something. Buyer beware!

Unfortunately,it happens on here,too...Drove 4 hours last fall to look at a car that was a beat up,rusted out hulk, supposedly a near virgin Ford that was "almost ready for paint"...guess I was the first one to notice the odd holes throughout the body, plus the p***engers side that had been pushed in about 6-8 inches around the door opening, then bondoed back flush...For his price, that Ford should have been what he said it was....Hope he reads this and recognizes himself

Error # 1 on your part,,,not asking the South Carolina Hambers if we had ever heard of Ron.

I have known about him for more than 30 years,,,He gets premium prices junk or nice cars,,,

I had an unpleasent deal with him many years ago,,,not over a car but some Model A parts,,,He showed me one thing and when I was paying him his slick buddy loads a different bent up radiator shell instead of the NOS one we agreed on.

Many phone calls and a couple of trips back to his place and he never made it right,,,HRP

Most folks around here in South Carolina know he is SLIMEY ... and not to be trusted. His place can be seen from the Interstate and he sells a lot of his stuff to folks up north ( where the cars are even worse :( ) or by trader paper ads.

Sorry you had the bad experience but at least you did not BUY IT.

I NEVER buy a vehicle without looking at it in person ... and YES ... I have driven a long ways, a couple times to come home empty handed but still had my $$$ .

Yes, true, but defamation of character or threats can be held against you. There's nothing in this thread that reads that way though. From the pics, the car looks nice though. I'd be PO'd too.

We lost that a long time ago. Now it has been replaced with terms like "Slander" and "Libel."

Is this guy's place on the north side of I-85? Been a while since I lived in Anderson but I recall seeing something on one of my journeys there and back.

Not if they're true. And, while it's certainly possible to do an interstate lawsuit, you'd likely have to prove he was wrong and I'd bet heios new friend,Ron, wants to avoid expense and exposure as much as possible.
I can't understand why anyone would buy a car on the Internet unless it was close enough to look at first. It's easy enough to get burned by a pro crook when the car is right in front of you.

Seriously man...The work involved in finding someones REAL name and contact info from a screen name on the internet is pretty damn rough.

From the general consensus this guy is a lying douche bag that needs to be quartered and hung. As mentioned before, there are enough idiots with more money than brains that will keep this **** head in business.

worded well enough i would say.i think a bonafide ''non personal grudge'' piece of information from a specific persons particular point of view and experience is a very helpful piece of info.a big thank you.at the least it is a place that the rest of us can put on our '' tread extra carefullly'' list, make our own judgements and that is real important info.

We all know that word of mouth advertising is the most effective. The internet makes it even more so.I live somewhat near this guy's collector car business and thought I might venture down and take a look at his stuff sometime. However between his vague, cookie cutter descriptions of all his vehicles and this thread,I think that I'll save myself a trip .

The main problem with proving defamation of character is the protection of free speech guaranteed by the First Amendment. Courts generally agree that an opinion, no matter how malicious, is not the same as a stated fact.

Stated fact here. The guy showed a car that was not like the actual. That is even greater. False adverti*****t.
Thanks for putting the word out...but a ****er is born every day. These people feed on it. All we can do is bring light to this carnage. These people destroy our hobby.
    I had a buddy spend 20k on a 67 camaro. ...and original..RUST FREE .327 4 speed.
I should have known the deal when the salesman (many states away) told the guys wife that its all bone stock. When asked specifics like is the ****** a m22 or m21...he stated that he was not that up on the specifics. Turns out the 327 and ****** was from a truck and it had floor patches. But she had to get the car for him. :( He was n't to happy when he learned the price.
