I dont believe you ;). I have been looking for a set also, last week ebay had a nice original set of bezels I wanted but was more then I wanted to pay ($250).

I have not found them at "Chev of the 40's" but if you do find them post a note

Go to ebay and do a search for a guy whose name is room4more. He is repopping these at $34.50 each. His name is Roy Olsen and he's in Sioux City Iowa. I don't have his phone number. I've got a set on the coupe and they look great.

These rings take a sheetmetal screw into the bucket at the bottom to hold them on and were bought by me from a 40's Chevy supply house. I believe the one 3WLarry is talking about uses a horizontal screw to pinch the ring in place. I have them on my P/U.

Guide may have made different rings at different times or it may be that the term Guide has become a generic discription for a tear drop sealed beam headlight. How your ring attaches may determine where to look to find one. I don't know if the two types interchange.

T...they're chrome. Tommy...you're right, they have the screw that retains the ring like the originals...

Have you tried a Harley Davidson parts-store ? The early fifties Harley used a headlamp made by GUIDE . ( with the same bezel as the car/truck lamps) . I have seen repro Harley lamps sold as complete units ... Maybe they also supply bezels only ? Good luck :)

My point was that there are 2 types of originals. The buyer needs to know which kind he needs to get the right rings.

These BLCs, like your guy sells, won't fit my roadster lights. Are BLCs "Guides"? I don't know

The type with the pinch bolt in the bottom need the groove on the end of the bucket seen above for the rings to grab onto.

I don't know if these are in fact "Guides" but the rings were bought at an old Chevy supply house for a Chevy truck. The bucket has the slot for the ring to hook into and a screw at the bottom. This type has a rubber gasket held in with the wire clips shown. both available at Chevy stores.

The term "Guide head light" gets thrown around alot. It seems anything with a running light on top is called a Guide. They may be but there are different types of rings.

Your kind needs a groove for the ring to pinch into. My roadster type has a blade that fits into a slot at 1 o'clock with a screw at 6 o'clock.

So find out what style ring that your bucket takes...the slot or the groove and then you will know where to find the correct ring.

room4more doesn't have any on ebay as we speak but as 3W-Larry says he repops the type you have.

I bought a pair from an aftermarket bike shop, not the Harley shop. The guy there ordered them through the Custom Chrome catalog he had, they are the type with the clamping screw on the bottom. I think it was about $50 for the pair. We checked several lights he had in stock and found the ring that fit, I'm not a Harley guy so i don't remember what bike they fit, but it's easy to find out if you can find someone that will take two minutes to help ya.

  14. I have also been doing some research on these rings. The original shiney rings were made of stainless and the ones that room4more or Roy Olsen has are chrome. The ones from Chevs 0f the 40`s appear to have a small tab on them at the top and I think if you were to take it off they would be the same. The last ones to sell on e*** went for $220+ for a set and a single went for slightly more then a hun. I have 5 from different lights with only 3 somewhat useable. I am going to take the best 2 to a metal polisher and see what he can do with them. Your best bet is to keep on the swapmeet trail and buy lights just for the rings. There seems to be a market out there for ones missing them and shouldn`t be to hard to resell without. HB32

The ones from Chevy's of the 40's have the little tab. I just wiggled them back and forth and they break off clean.

    Oldie but goodie...

Any ideas how to convert the sealed beam unit for a new bulb or how to replace the bulb with a new one? I'd like to save old lens but it looks like the bulbs are not removable. Thanks.

    Found this thread too...

  21. They sell repros of this kind exactly in stainless steel. I found them new at a swap meet from a Chevy parts place. They're the same as some certain year of Chevy truck. I think it was '37 or '39 or something around there. I used some on some guide headlights and they were a perfect fit and matched the contour of the Guide headlights and everything. They're made to go on the type of headlight buckets that have a lip that bulges out. You spread the ring open to fit it over the bulged out lip, then use the horizontal screw at the bottom of the ring to pull the ring back together. They work great. Some of the BLC headlights use the same exact type of rings too.

If you don't want to risk getting the wrong rings, you could bring a bucket to a swap meet and try the repro rings out for fit.

Contact OTB Gear. They make the repro headlights and Bonus they have the rings for sale also. Bought a set for my 40 Chevy pickup. They fit great and are top drawer stuff.

  23. This is an original BLC headlight and steel trim ring, but it has the same type of horizontal screw mount as the grey primer one a couple of posts up.

Thanks for your answers but I don't still get what to do with the closed sealed beam unit with a fixed bulb and fixed lens.

All of the lights in this thread use a sealed beam H/L. The gl*** lens is an integral part of the sealed beam. You replace the whole sealed beam, lens and all.

If you have an earlier unit with a separate lens, reflector and bulb then it can be converted but that would depend on the exact make year and model of the H/L that you actually have.

Thanks. The problem is that I want to keep the orginal lens with B-L-C, and Sealed Beam -scripts on them. Planning to make a home-made conversion... We'll see...

  27. I believe Cole did what you are wanting on the blue bike. He separated an old lense and ran modern internals with the older face. Forget if he used an xacto or what. He described it ont he Jockey Journal I think?
