57 Ford (To Buy...or Not to Buy)

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Termites Ate my Chevy, Dec 7, 2008.

  1. I was all ready to shout.........What? You didn't buy it yet?????????????

Whew, Good deal. G***er style is cool but if you want a real daily driver, rebuild the front end with a bit of a lift. Just my .02 from experience from driving a straight axle daily driver. It can be tiring.

Don't do the hemi. Thats for pre '48 stuff. I dig the g***er style. Stick a decent FE motor in it with dual quads. Even if it is a 390.

Cool deal man....FE is a bolt in swap.. Turn the Y block mounts backwards and bolt it to the OEM frame mounts easy, instant g***er.

The last engine in it was a 6cylinder with a 3 speed.

You can still get those mounts from NAPA. The frame stands are the same for all models. Cool that it has pedals, as people who have them, for some reason, want more than theyre worth....

Before you speak, you should check your data. There is not such thing as a 1957 Fairlane "300" If you find one, I would like to see it.

Just stumbled across this post, and see you're from ND too. I picked up my '57 moredoor that runs and drives for $800 out of Washburn. It also comes with a parts car I gotta get sometime, so if you need a front seat I'll probably have one for ya.

I keep telling people if mine was a 2 door I would turn it into a g***er. But mine is gonna go the other direction height wise.

Nice, love those cozy shops in the midwest. I will take you up on that seat if you give me a few weeks to make up the dough.

Econoline axles are good for the `57. I have one for mine, with stock springs. Trying to find some shorter, but if not, I will be flipping these front to back, and using the stockers. They are 45 inches long, so the ride should be pretty smooth, for a solid axle. Maybe that guy with the black and grey straight axle car will pipe up.

I bought mine a few months back but paid quite a bit more. Looks like it
was a two tone paint car as it still has the paint dividers. Parts are relatively easy to get for them because they made so many. Patch panels
if you need them can bought from EMS which has really nice quailty stuff.
I'm thinkin a 429-460 for mine in the future.
