    Beautiful cover art...outstanding.

    I read that letter and John's response....and I couldn't agree more.
It nice to see class put into a hot rod magazine again. Too many have been too much "rodent" oriented and too much about "the scene".
All of us who grew up in the 50's and 60's know that rodding never was about "the scene"...rodding isn't a costume party.
    .....I'm going to subscribe today.

Great response to a jerk-off reader. And that cover art is amazing.

I've never heard of this magazine and it's published 85 miles from me! Thanks for the heads up, I just subscribed.

  5. I love the response but,....................well Im one of those profane hot rodders!!

    Doc.

  6. The artwork is amazing and I'm all for what John stands for.
Wishing you only the best John! It can be a tough row to hoe. From the one issue my son brought home, I think you hit a home run.

I am subscribing to this mag, I need to support someone who actually has and expresses standards in the face of contrition....

Even if I disagreed with the standards, (which I don't), I would have to respect the publisher for actually having standards, increasingly no one has standards beyond their own desire.

Awesome art (as always), awesome comment.

Notice there are no "Z's" used in my post, well, other than the one in this sentence.

Thanks for what you're doing, John. And If I can judge your book by its cover, you appear to be doing it pretty well, too!

  12. Cheers for the reason of sanity. I for one belive there is plenty of room for all in this sport! John's rebuttal is well written and now I will sit backdown in my chair and wait my turn.

It's a great magazine and getting better with each issue. He's a great guy too. No posing or fake anything. He's not afraid to say what he doesn't know how to do, or to give credit to those who help him. Class act all the way from what I've seen so far. Plus Kevin's mention of me in this one gave me a good laugh because I wasn't expecting to see that.

  15. That Scott dude is a douche.

That reply convinced me to go buy the mag and subscribe. Something I have not done in YEARS. Class act.

Great, respectful reply. If I were the editor I probably would have told Scott something profane and disrespectful, suggesting he take his copy of OSR to the bathroom, while wishing him a paper-cut-free stroking session.

But that's just me and I tend to be a little crude.

FANTASTIC art work as usual Jeff! You're a class act John!

Great Response! After meeting and talking to John, I would expect nothing less than honesty and class. I'm a subscriber and I bought all the back issues I missed. Hometown Hot Rods and TRJ are just about the only publications I leave out on the coffee table in my home.

  21. First, Norwell's, Rockwellian cover is great! Really a beautiful piece of art. Wish more magazines would do things like that.

And speaking of that, John's response is a great piece of prose. Glad that he expressed his views and is sticking to them. Like I said before, I wish more magazines would do that.

Hot rodding always was about the cars. The 'adornments' were exactly that - but it's still about the cars. Well said John, and Scott apparently hasn't yet graduated to walking on his hind legs.

This thread is the first time I've heard of Hometown Hot Rod Magazine but I'm so impressed with the response and moral responsibility of John I bought a subscription.

I just got my latest issue the other day too.... Thanks John,
Great responce to Scott..... Studedude meet John @ the Lead Sled spectacular in Kansas and brought back a copie. It had a write up bout HAMB drags..Oct/Nov issue, thanks Breeder. I had to have it... After trying to order a subscription and a couple copies on the net, John sends me a e-mail that I was over charged for shipping or something, when I got my mags, there was a check for a refund, something I was not even expecting. What an upstanding magazine, thanks John.... I cant wait for the next issue.

Yes this is a great magizine, and I have got to know him just a little from this years car shows that he is at, he is a great guy with a good eye for real hot rods. He is a hard worker, and has great passion for an excellent magizine. I don't know how he dose it all with the travel, teaching, home, and a new baby. Keep up the good work John, and Merry Christmas.

oh yea, and I'll be signing up for another year

I met John at the Hunnert Car Pileup and signed up. Its a great magazine, and from the little time I spent talking to him, he came across as a down to earth person.
