I wired the light post in my front yard so I can put out MORE christmas lights. My wife wants me to put my '27 cowl in the front yard and light it up too, have a couple of reindeer behind it like their driving...I dunno, sounds kinda cute now that I think about it.

    That seat looks killer!

I had a good day. The bed frame for my truck was basically done. I found a guy that will do some bending and had him do the front wall and tool box segments. The frame and fuel tank come off with 12 bolts and the fuel line. I was able to paint the front, and do some plug welds that wont show.
During the week I bent up a firewall between the tools and the filler neck. Its a good snug fit, but can be removed. I used 2 sheet metal screws on the outer edge as cheap insurance that it won't move. The finger pull/drain hole gives me access to the fuel sender. The little bent section of 16g keeps the boxes from sliding into the oil bottles, and in a pinch beats nothin' for a wheel chalk. Theirs enough room for 5 qts. Leaves plenty of room for 3 big ammo boxes for a few tools, spare tune up stuff, little bottle jack and some tire plugs. Hope I don't ever have to use any of it. Stil need to brace up the left side then fit a hinge to the door. The door has to open backward... it was the only way I can lock it by hooking under the front rail. Heres some pix

    dialing in the 1405 on the 4-71 / 303
so far runs best with 404 main jets and .068x.042 rods with silver metering rod springs
put in a fresh set of Autolite 295 plugs gapped at .020
and set the Ronco at 11 degrees initial

drove around for about an hour
    pulls real strong and smooth
hardly noticed it's only about 37 degrees out

    Paul,

Glad to hear you are sorting out the 4-71. Sounds like you about have it dialed in now. Nice photo. Good inspiration for mine.

How did you handle your water pump and fan? Did you just use your stock pump pulley, etc. I am trying to figure that out for my hemi version and the pulleys I have don't seem to quite work out yet. I have a 1 belt fan pulley and a 5 blade steel fan. But the fan pulley doesn't line up with the blower pulley groove. Need to trim the stock water pump housing (which seems odd to have to do) and maybe even make a custom pulley. Would be nice to a clear photo of your water pump/fan/pulley area to see how you did it. I know it will be different because of different motor, but I might be able tot gleam some useful insight out of it. I see you accessory belt is on the inside. If I recall, the crank pulley has mine set up for the outer most belt.

This doesn't show the crank pulley with it, but best photo I have for the moment:

    Michael,
thanks for the kind words, when I first stuck this motor in I was having doubts about my sanity, yanking the perfectly good Stude setup.. but now it is without any doubt the most fun car I've ever had

I'm running an electric fan, puller mode.
had to, the motor sits too high to line a mechanical fan up with the radiator core..

my measuring was off about an eighth when I had the lower hub made, pushing the lower pulley out that much, so I made a spacer and put it behind the pump pulley to get it to line up. I knew the blower pulley was going to need to move out an eighth to line up with the pump pulley to start with, so now I had to make a 1/4" spacer to go behind the drive coupling to get all the pullies in line.

don't know if that helps at all, as you say your setup is not exactly the same..

I'll see if I can find a picture..
here's a couple I took yesterday with the new water crossover I just made,

oh yeah, mine had the double pulley on the pump too, I pulled the short one off and am only using the long one
and I had to make a bracket to mount the generator so it lines up with the pump pulley too.

Had big plans to do some heavy duty car shopping.
Got home from work to discover the house water heater had sprung a leak:mad:
Spent the next twelve hours re-arranging **** in the ba*****t, rounding up a water heater and getting some guys over to get the water out.
Went to bed 2 a.m., with 10 fans and 3 de-humidifiers blasting away. Merry Christmas, you filthy animals!

I just bought a sewing machine and all the gear and can't wait to try it out . . . but my wife says I have more than a few projects to finish first. I spent the day ***embling my new radiator test tank and trying to figure out how to post my first message on HAMB! lol Now people want pictures . . . I'm an old man!
