For some reason, Old Navy has been selling all of their Chev trucks. Seen them on Ebay, Craigslist, and on hotrodhotline. Missing running gear and most innards. Although not a bad start.

Man this truck is AWESOME.. you and your friends did a GREAT JOB on the chop and I think they look great sitting on the floor.. Love it... how many inches do you lift it to drive normally and how does it ride at that height ??
Any pictures at ride height ??
Great job... would love to have my 54 with that job and that low.

  8. You hit the lines very good. Us younger guys like bagged trucks in most cases. We learned from you older guys, and your Grandkids will be learning from us. It is a hell of a lot better than wasting money on a ricer.

  15. Maybe you should go back and re-read my post. I in no way insulted you or your ride. If you took what I posted as an insult you'd best grow thicker skin.

Keep in mind I'm an old guy. I like lowering anything on 4 wheels. Only difference is I like the stance drivable. Just don't get stopping or parking and then lowering the vehicle to the ground. What's the reason, just because you can? To me a whole lot of effort and cost that has NOTHING to do with the reason for owning a truck or car in the first place, going from point A to point B and looking good while your doing it. If it looks good going down the road it will look good parked.

A question 'why' could be answered with 'because'. Neither apply to 'what' we do to our cars.

In the truck I see two trucks. One that won't go, parked in the weeds alongside the road, a derelict. Then by some magical force to be transformed to a go-machine. A rebirth.

To a mechanic, nothing spectacular. To an artist, something more.

I'm going to join the "I like it" group. While I wouldn't bag anything I own, I have no problems with others doing it to their vehicles. One of the best parts of this hobby is being different from the rest. I'm looking forward to seeing more progress pics in the future.

  23. I like Truck's. I like things Different. The best Stock vehicle is just a good place to start. I get "Why". I'm more into How and How nice you did the Work. May not be my Cup of Tea but I can appriceate what you've done because You can. As a youngster (30's) I built a Sectioned and Channeled F-100 Panel truck. We didn't have Bags then but it sat Really low and I drove the Hell out of it. People used to ask me Why also. Those were good days.

  24. The split windshield means it's pre-54, or 47-53. The gas tank in the cab started in 49. Vent windows started in 51. The push-button door knobs started in 52. It's a '53 according to his profile.

    It's gotta 250 straight-six, not a 350 V8. The 350 is the turbo 350 trans.

These trucks look really good lowered, and the air bags means it's adjustable to some extent. That's better than scraping driveways and speed bumps. I'd like to see it fully aired up, too. I don't like when there's no floor in the bed, making it useless as a truck. I don't mind air bag or hydraulics, but I'd probably never spend the cabbage for them. Do air bags ever deflate unexpectedly while driving? In other words, how much of a potential hazard are they?

    Thanks,
    Kurt

Air bags have been used in the semi-truck industry for years and are under much greater loads than your average "pick 'em up" truck. You'll find most air bags in modified car applications are rated for much higher loads than the vehicle will ever be under.

As far as safety goes, if the bag suddenly deflates (or worse case scenario, blows out), that's what you have bump stops for (for the few people that use them). That should still keep at safe ride height for the time being.

    That's just my $.02

  26. We run air bags in our Town Cars and Limos. They last a long time but they do give out in time. Never had a catastrophic failure though such as a sudden blow out. Though I have seen other Limos on the road that had blown air bags and the rear of the cars sat on the rear tires. So you really should beware of your scrub lines for safety sake, even if the odds are against the bags ever blowing.

I also had them in rigs I've driven and never had any blow out, leaked, yes. Usually from wear. I've also seen some installations of bags in cars that I wouldn't give you two cents for. Others that were well engineered.

    air bags

    good
you can drag while driving and shower the road with sparks!!! fun
it can ride and handle surprisingly well when the geometry is correct.
    change your ride height.

    bad
sucks waiting for it to fill the tanks unless you buy a million$ compressor.
    always something to fix.
valves freeze in the winter from low temp and moisture in the tank from the comp.
personally annoying to have to set the ride height everytime you wana drive it.

over all i love the truck, good work! it makes me want to dig my dads parts truck outa the weeds and do a similar setup as yours just use coil springs n shocks inplace of bags at a low but practical daily ride height

At the age of 37 I am on the fence about bags.
I've never bagged anything but like the look.
My cars are real low but done the old fashioned way.

I kinda think bags are cheating, but sometimes I wish
    I had 'em (Speedbumps etc.).

Now, I love old trucks, especially Chevy's, however I'm
typically not fond of choppin' them. Your's on the other
hand is a tasteful chop and looks good.
