ok, I have another thread going, but seems nobody reads the previous posts and simply adds on..... So I'm starting a new thread. I am unfamiliar w/ the correct way to identify a Model "A" versus a Model "T". A little ***istance would be appreciated.
as stated above the model a's have a removable gas tank that makes up part of the cowl , model t's cowl is all one piece , thats the easiest way i know of
Look at the differences... they're more than just the tank. Compare the roofs, visors, rear "decks," the cowls are shaped differently, fenders and running boards, grills, headlight size, inner fender metal, frame, wheels, etc., etc. This is certainly a searchable topic. Spend a day or two looking up the individual models and you'll have all the answers you need plus some really cool threads. Good luck with it.
how do tell the differnt years of model T's then? what diffencecs do they have bettween years? Model A's came about in 1928 right?
Another tip for researching differences is to look at a site or catalog that sells parts for said vehicles, snydersantiqueauto.com for example. Since they sell T & A parts you'll be able to see all the individual differences even within the model's years.

Here is a photo from the model T club of america. http://www.mtfca.com/gallery/index.htm It has enough pictures to help out. The model t went through a great many changes during it's production run. Many cars aren't consistent with what their "model year" was supposed to be. If you are really interested in learning a great many of the intricacies of the car, there are some wonderful resources available. In book form, the best one to get is Bruce McCalley's "Model T Ford: The car that changed the world." In Cd form there is the Model T Encyclopedia which is supposed to be even better. Also, since the T is such an old car overall, it is impossible to really quantify what each car probably is as so many have been altered over time. I think mine was shaped up at some point in the late 50's or early 60's, thankfully very little of it was changed from the proper year.
Hey thanks guys. I looked at a few websites and also did some searches, but was in a hurry this morning, so I knew a HAMBy would have a quick and easy way to determine..... The cowl is the best way for me - Also, it is very difficult to tell the difference between an "A" and "T" by the roof when IT AIN'T GOT ONE !!!!!
Honestly, my suggestion would be to look at tons and tons of pictures and look at the differences between them. About your roof question, The Ts usually have more of a flat roof where an A will have a curved piece that goes into the roof. Look at the coupe pictures above and you will see what I am talking about. Also the exception in the '28/'29 A pickups.
early "T"'s did not have a water oump . "T"'s had individual coils for each cylinder .
