I grew up in Amarillo, and got to see many of the greats. I was just a kid, but if you have specific questions, I might can get you some answers from my older brother and his friends.
I am going to Scottsdale on Wednesday, and Don Hardy (who built Kelly Chadwick's Nova) will be there in our group.
I'm always looking for more info on my Anglia. It was a legal g***er in the 60's, ran primarily at Green Valley. I've got some pictures from the World Finals (1971) in Amarillo somewhere. I'll post them when I find them. Here's a link with some old pictures from Green Valley and Wichita Dragway. Larry T http://flickr.com/photos/tom-margie/sets/72157601082871673/
Funnycar65..What do you want to know about Tom McCroan??He was a used car dealer on Forest Lane.Garland,Tex..But that was 40 years ago...
I'm trying to piece as much information together as I can about the Funny Car and Tom McCroan for my recreation/restoration.I found what's left of the Funny Car.Any photos or info would be awesome, thank you.
Funnycar65..Wish I had read this thread before,as I just returned from the annual get together of OLD Texas drag racers in Dallas.Matter of fact Dale Emery was awarded a plaque by us this year..I will call Mart Higginbotham and see if he has any more info on Tom..also Frank Cook or Raymond Beadle..Maybe you should plan to attend this event next year as many, many folks bring out photos from those days..I'd be happy to advise you of date and location.Gene Snow was to attend yesterday, but I didnt see him.
I've tried to find out who did the wheelbase conversion on the car,it's close to what was done on Tex Darnaby's Temptation Plymouth,I think Hardy had a hand in that one?
There's a guy that owns a trailer chop in garland now. I think it is actually called "The Trailer Shop" I bet he'd be a good person to talk to. I only briefly questioned him about the FED pictures on his office wall, but they were his and run locally.
Here is a pic of the FED's they ran. Bugs Threadgill, Travis Perrinoit (spelling?), Big Gene, Vance Hunt, TC Lemon, Ed Mabry and Bobby Langley
I thought so, theres some pretty good stuff in there. It's not really full of facts, more like a bunch of stories of old races, drivers and the way things were. Theres some really funny stuff about a rental truck and a broken differential and another about a shop mishap.
