Not much else to do up here when it's -44 with the wind chill and the snow is pounding down other than read threads from other car nuts. I've been lurking here for some time and finally decided to take the plunge and join in. My current project is a straight axle 64 half cab Scout. It's an old school street racer from back in the early 70's. Back then a local legend named Jim Pratt pulled all the 4x4 stuff out , put in an econoline 5 inch drop axle , Olds rear with 5:13 gears and dropped in a 426 hemi set back 8 inches into the firewall. The truck ran 12's with little or no traction and was featured in the 1974 Hot Rod yearbook under the name Elephant Hunter. Ironically, this was the first Hot Rod magazine I ever owned. The Truck made a great first impression. After 20 years of this beast kicking around and languishing beside a number of garages, I came across it. The Hemi is long gone but the rest of it is in great shape. I'm upgrading it with a new Dana 60 and comp engineering ladder bars. I can't afford a new 426 so I'm going with the Hilborn injected SBC on Methanol I have from my last project. Should be a fun ride when done. But I digress, this should be posted somewhere on the board. Thanks for putting up with my rant Glad to be part of this board
welcome abord fellow canuck! To bad about 426 missing. How about a new hemi or better yet a 1st gen one!
I'm also new to this board but welcome anyway. I'm just outside of Winnipeg and the wind is blowing so hard here the visibility is almost zero.
Pictures of the beast coming soon I have the original article from 1974 as well as the barn find pictures from when I "found" it. The build up is currently not visually appealing so I'll wait until I'm rolling it out of the garage. In the meantime the pictures will have to wait until I can highjack the scanner at work. Scanner hijacked...Here is the original article from the 74 Hot Rod Yearbook as well as the "Barn Find" pictures.
Glad to see that old beast being revived. Often wondered what happened to it. Last time I saw it was in a drive in parking lot on McPhillips. Welcome to the HAMB. Canuck East St Paul
It's damn cold here, but the corner of Portage and Main is the coldest spot on the whole planet. Welcome. Going to be in Winterpeg next week to see my bro and family and hope it warms up a bit from now til then. Only -40 windchill here now
