A buddy of mine is picking up a 1960 Buick LeSabre 4 door. Factory powersteering, power brakes, and a Nailhead. I crawled underneat it, and it appears to have a Hydramatic. When did buick drop the dynaflow?
What makes you think it is a Hydramatic? Dynaflow was used until 64, when replaced by the st-300, then the st-400 in 65.. the best i remember. may be a year or two off... Brian
Not sure when they dropped the dynaflow, but the 60 Lesabre would have had one. Does it still have the torque tube or does it have an open drive line? If the later, then the original trans was swapped out.
63 was the last year for the Dynaflow. 64-66 had the ST400 behind the Nailhead. Also available as the SP400 with a switch pitch converter.
Ask Fraz, he drives one every day rain or shine cold or hot. He knows about them things for sure and certain. As for the dynaflow. That's what's in it unless somebody swapped it out. Closed driveline will tell. VonDad
Open driveline, probably swapped with 64-66 st400, closed driveline means he is still going with the "flow", or is he? Hmmm, only inquiring minds know!!!!! (Could always have a triple turbine dynaflow out of a 59 Buick. Frames are probably the same 59 to 60.) Dumb question? What does it say on the shift indicator PNDLR? or some other kluge?
If it's still factory, it'll be a Dynaflow. Look at the trans again. Aluminum bellhousing bolted to a steel case, and a big funky spherical ball attachment going to the torque tube? If you look hard at it I bet you can see where the trans says Dynaflow on it.
