Okay, I joined up about a year ago, then got sidetracked and never posted anything or checked back. So here's my intro. My name's El. I'm 27 years old, and a bartender by trade. I live in upstate NY and I have a handful of old cars. Stuff that you guys might be interested in is: a lowered, stock body & drive train 56 Buick Special that needs a little work but is a driver; a 56 Chevy 4door wagon with a 307 that I'm going to be chopping and dropping; and a stock 63 Rambler that I'm going to do a real mild custom job on (just lowering, paint, grill). I also have a 75 CB750 cafe racer project, and am in the middle of trying to buy a KZ440. I also build bicycles (beach cruisers and bmx) and play b***, guitar, and a little banjo. Looking forward to learning from you all and seeing what cool tricks I can pick up!
Welcome to the site, I am in walker valley, about 30 miles west of you, I have a 65 comet caliante to be finished by spring a 56 ford f-100 I am fixing for a shop truck, A 57 ford 2 dr post car,57 ford fairlane 500 hardtop,a 57 ford convertible, 64 ford galaxie hardtop,64 galaxie convertible and a 47 chevy panel truck, these are projects i hope to finish in the next few years, I also have a louver press, if you know anybody who needs a hood louverd, let me know, thanks John
Hey yeah! Five string with Scruggs-style? Guitar-banjo and clawhammer? Anyone who plays 5-string banjo can't be totally bad person! And welcome to hamb, keep writing and checking back to your posts. Too many of new guys don't write more than just an intro...
@screwball: Kingston is East NY. Right along the Hudson about 1/2 way between Alabany and NYC. @shelby: I'll keep my ears open. @otto: Scruggs style! Badly though. Just started learning, and after years of playing guitar and b***, the chording on a banjo is real hard to pick up. Fun as hell though!
I am here to bust your chops. I live in Saratoga. I have a 63 TBird to drive and a 62 Fairlane with a 460/C6/9inch with 40 Ford front axle. Upstate NY is everything north of the erie c****. South of the c**** is downstate. I too am a ****py Scruggs style banjo player. First I was a ****py guitar player for 20 years, then I became a ****py banjo player for 15 years. I just can't play fast enough to jam. I have an upright b*** to play at jam sessions. I inherited a drum set so I'm becoming a ****py drummer. Keep 'em flying, Rick
True enough, but downstate is meaningless to anyone outside of NY. Also, I found people from the city call anything north of the Bronx upstate, and call anything north of Albany Canada. I play a little doghouse too, with a country combo every once in a while. Can't drum to save my life...
Whoa! How many banjo-players we have here, anyway?!! Just like I would have written that one! Except, I'm playin'.. or at least; tryin' to learn, how to play clawhammer style, and later -some day- try to figure out how Scruggs-style could be learned. I have same thing that you've got, played guitar earlier, so now my fingers create small knots over fretboard... But yeah, fun as hell! Now we have club of ****py banjo-players! I'm in! Can't resist to link this; here is bluegr*** from Finland! http://www.myspace.com/jsyren and from Sweden http://www.myspace.com/gravitybluegr***band
Lots of cool cars in Kingston. Nice variety of makes and models. Check out the local cruise at the ice cream stand in Port Ewen. 200+ cars on a nice friday night. Sonic is getting a few on saturday nights too.
