I have an aluminum dynaflow with the high ac***ulater ( kickdown ), and a complete re-build kit for it from a 1956 Buick with a nailhead. My question is will i be able to replace the old cast iron pos in my 52 buick with the aluminum one?
You should try asking at www.buickclub.org and Russ Martin at Centerville Auto Repair. He was a web-site and knows old Buicks. Tell him Fr. Buick sent you... Are you keeping the Str8-8? At the very least, the old bell housing will get the new trans to the the old engine, but as for starter lining up and converter lining up, those will be big questions. Have you thought of swapping in a original 3-speed? They should not be too hard to come by... Happy wrenching, Fr. Buick
I would definitely check with the Buick guy as suggested. Chances are that you will be able to mate the old bell to the new trans, but again the torque converter and possibly the starter are going to be the stumbling blocks. The 52 St 8 had a very old converter that was very different from the twin turbine variable pitch type in the 55 or 56 Buicks. The starter might only need a different drive gear for the new flywheel, which should have a finer pitch ring gear.
