Nope. I think it quit running and then the old boy parked it. I guess this was the first new truck the guy bought.
I think it was Walden that said that burning firewood warmed you twice: once when you cut it and again when you burned it. Seems to me this wood will warm you in another way: a killer deal on a sweet truck. Way to go!
Buddy wanted the bumper/grill combo off this Buick. Didn't have the chain-saw that day; so he p***ed. This looks like the same car in Nailhead Jones avatar. Maybe he saved it from the tree.
Good score, but your truck is a '39, not a '38. Center bar of grille is different, hood ornament/latch handle is different. '38 has laminated cardboard inside door panels, '39 has stamped sheet metal. '38 windshield regulator has a handle just above the ridge of the upper dash panel while '39 has a round knob up on top of upper dash panel. '38 gauge faces are a light bronze color, '39 are sort of a chocolate milk color. Being a big truck it could have either mechanical or hydraulic brakes--'39 cars and pickups went to hydraulics at the beginning of the '39 model year, but '39 big trucks built early in the model year still had mechanicals. Most '39 big trucks had hydraulic brakes but not all, so the brakes are not a sure indicator. Serial number is stamped on top of left frame rail in the vicinity of the steering box. The number will have a BB18- prefix. Check that number against the serial listings at www.flatheadV8.com (Mac VanPelt's site) and confirm that it's a '39.
***le for it says its a 38. It has a 38 grill not a 39. It does have mechanical brakes. I going to call it a 38.
Also another difference: '38 has a square ashtray in center of dash (same ashtray as '33-'34 car); '39 does not have an ashtray.
