283 crate motor whats it worth?

A friend of mine just called and offered up a rebuilt boat 283 motor with a 3 year warranty said he paid 1500 for it offered to me for less. I am sure the cam will have to changed. Does any one have any advise?

 

Pin the studs in the heads, put a flat tappet camshaft in it, std. shift behind it, turn it up to about 6500 rpm, and side step the clutch. It will be just fine........

 

bought the engine and its home it is a s&s rebuild called them belived to have 174 intake valves.
