Hello my name is Lumm and I am new to the forum .I have been a member for a while but have yet to post anything . I have been kinda waitin till I had a good question and not one to make me look like a fool or an idiot but with that said I aint sure that this one aint gonna make me look that way :D . I have a 31 Coupe I have been workin on for a little over a year . I have finally primed it Flat Black . That is fine and all but I aint really feelin it to much . I want a more of a rustic old look . The primer is a little to clean lookin for my taste . I am goin for the dad parked his old coupe in the shed when he got finished with it back in the day and I went out and pulled it out and got it to runnin and started drivin it . Dig ?? So my question is how do I take new sprayed flat black primer and ruff it up and make it look old and worn . Is there some kind of method I could use to sand or rub it to kinda take the new look off of it and make it look 40 years old or atleast somewhat ??

Most people on here including myself want finished cars. Cars have to earn a patina and Primer is okay if your working on it, but dont sand off fresh primer trust me. Paint that 31.

I'd paint it! It'd be way cool!

  5. If you really want it to have the used look. Drive the balls off of it.

    Well....a couple of things...
    1. Welcome to the House of Hooligans.

    2. With some matching wheels on the front, and a nice bright red paint job, all of which won't empty your wallet, and you have a nice ripe "Traditional" ride.

    3. By painting it in a finished color, that'll just be one more thing you know how to do yourself. (The way it used to be)

Welcome to the hamb from st louis.....It's your car finish how you want then drive it....spray your car with several complete coats of primer each being a different color then spray a final coat of a satin finish color of your choice....Then take some 600 grit snadpaper and go over different spota and sand through the finish down to one of the primers...like where your arm would rest on the door when you hang it out the window....do this in defferent area's till you get the look you want............
