Bump! Doesn't anybody know of any Chopped convertibles out there?? I know they have been done....So Let's see them! Rickster where you at??

  3. You may want to check Riksters site for cars built by Bill Hines. He is an expert at chopping folding tops. A knowledge of Geometry is helpful.

I knew a guy who chopped cars constantly back in the 1980s. He LOVED to chop convertibles because all he did was chop the windshield posts and then lower the entire folding mechanism down into the body the same amount (2 inches, 3 inches, or whatever) and then work the body around the rear of the top to meet the new rear of the top.
Depending on what you're chopping, sometimes it's just as easy to take a few inches out of the back of the frame as to lower the whole thing.
The guy I'm talking about also used to put full-size 1970s GM tops onto '49-51 Mercs, which gave them a much lower and sleeker profile.

Not trying to hijack this thread but......when chopping a vert does the 1/3 roof height to 2/3 body height proportion rule apply?

  8. Here's mine - right around two inches.

My '47 Ford convertible chopped 3 1/2". Hand made flush fender skirts made from a '78 Chevy Suburban hood. Over 100 modificatons.
    Peace,

Nope, never heard of him. My guy is from Akron, Ohio (actually Sawyerwood) and his name was Ed. I THINK his last name was Endearle, but I only heard it once. Everyone just called him "Big Ed."
After B.F. Goodrich pulled out of Akron in the 1980s he relocated to North Carolina or South Carolina, at which point he became "Ed from Ohio." I haven't heard anything from him in at least 15 years. Great guy. Treated me really nice when I was just a teenager, and showed me a couple of his "top secret tricks!"
