Drafted in Sept. 1965 then enlisted for Army Security Agency. Spent a year in school then two years in Ethiopia, final year at Ft. Riley. ETS in Nov. 1969 and got into the car business.

Great memories of my time in Ethiopia and good friends. About twenty of us got back together after being apart for over 30 years. We have a little "reunion' every summer and offer support to those of us that need it. A GREAT bunch of guys.

Corporal Roberts (retd), Royal Electrical & Mechanical Engineers (REME), did 14 years starting in '89, the usual round robin of Tidworth, Gulf War Pt 1, Osnabruck, Crossmaglen (Northern Ireland), Episkopi (Cyprus), Hong Kong and finally Warminster. I was what the British Army (STILL the finest Army in the world!) called a VM(A)1, which means I fixed armoured vehicles mostly. been out a few years now, and miss it, well, miss the mates really.
Had the pleasure of working with the US Army a couple of times, and enjoyed mixing it up with your boys.
Hats off the the draftee's on here that did their stint, especially those who saw combat. Respect where it is due, from one ex-soldier to another.

BTW, thats my old regimental motto in my sig. The always told the tank crews it translated as "top it up, she'll motor"!!

I heard a story about a tankie in Viet Nam, sitting in his Centurion tank showing an Infantry mate around. Inside the turret there is a degree ring running around the diameter of the traversing gear. The 'Grunt, noticed it went up to 360*, he turned to his mate and asked,
    'Whats it for?'
    His mate replied,
'So we know where the guns pointing'
'Oh' replied the 'Grunt, 'What happens if you go past 360*?'
"The fucking turret unscrews and falls off you dumb prick' was the answer!

First, let me thank each and every one of you for your service to our nation.
Let me add that the troops in RVN, drafted and volunteer, did a super job, period! The vets from that war built the great ground force we have today. I will never forget the great soldiers I served with as long as I live.

US Army 1963-1988, 19Z5MC5, from tank loader to tank brigade Command Sergeant Major, RVN 67-68 1ST CAV. REGT., Germany border patrol 11th Horse - 3rd armored, also Korea.
Great soldiers in every unit! I miss the troops and the tanks. Have dear friends from the army days, also lost some great friends.
