I worked tonight on the 5" section. It took some time laying it out to make sure it would go back together as nicely as it could. I've got the section now roughed in. I still have to go over all the posts to make sure they lign up and then start welding it back together.

OK, Chris, I've changed my mind... I think the sectioning job will make the cab look even better.

I can't wait to see how you align the post flare at the firewall (where the gap in the body still is).

He wants it to be smooth and so I will use the rain gutters on my 32' pickup because the ones on them are realy rotten.

Just so everyone is aware. When I started my business 3 years ago I was knee deep in the 1940 Aluminum Willy's. I though that was the direction I was heading, building aluminum cars from scratch. But as time has evolved so has my focus and interests.

I have grown to truly love traditionally styled 1930's rods. And that has been where my focus has shifted to. I will still focus on sheet metal fabrication and metal finishing. But it is now on these 30's rods.

So as my focus has evolved, my business name should represent where that focus lies. As such I have changed my business name from “Aluminum Street Rods” to “ Salt Flats Speed Shop”.

Hopefully this name change will help everyone more clearly understand what type, and style of rod's I work on.

    Sincerely,
    Chris Davenport

Just to go and take to bonnecville and watch. But hopefully the look resembles something that belongs on the salt.

  14. I'm not usually one for that style of truck but I have to admit that Notch's truck definitely looks clean and I like it...if you come close to that then you are doing alright

awesome work man. and the new name is great too.

Your shop looks like a dream with the salt truck, the 36 3 window and that A in the back ground plus more tin laying around. I like the fact you are incorporating an insert in the roof. That will make a huge difference and add a great aspect of the truck!!

I like it and I can't wait to see the progress.

This morning I started working on the section on the doors. Ive got them cut down and mocked up to make sure it all fits. Next i'll fix some rust in the inner bottom, and then build a new outer bottom skin.

The frame will be a model a in the front and the back (using both crossmembers), and under the cab it will be tubing shaped to fit. He wants the cab to sit 3 1/2" off the ground so it will have a big kick up in the front and rear. As for a bed he doesnt want one. He just wants to have the quick change open and exposed.
