Well, I recently sold my Grand Am, so I am back to driving my 52 daily....which I did for 6-7 years before getting the late model. So I was wonderin' who else out there in the Land of HAMB drives their rods/customs daily (as in "I ain't got no other cars driveable" daily)

Sound off, and include pics if you want. (I don't have any pics here with me at work, so maybe I'll stick some on here later.)

Let's hear the joys and frustrations of keeping your car on the road instead of in the garage/carport/driveway/backyard.

Well not a rod or a custom...but the newest car I have had as a daily driver is the one I am using now a 69 T-bird...before that it was a 65 which I still have...and up north I had been using a 63 Chevy a 48 Nash Ambassador and a 48 Chrysler Windsor. When my 1955 Packard is ready it will replace my 69 as the daily and trade off between it and my 1926 T roadster when its ready. Never a new car.

  3. My 48 is my daily driver. Has been on and off for about 15 years. I get a late model and it just sits cause I don't feel like driving it.

I drive my '59 Pickup everyday. I pretty much gave the late model to the wife after her Neon started overheating, and I haven't had time to check it out yet.

I drive my 55' daily and sometimes switch off to my 63' Buick. Wouldn't have it anyother way. Much better than driving a cookie cutter.

Drive my '32 2dr pretty much every day from spring till last of October (later if it doesn't snow). Other than that I have a '90 SS454 PU. I would like to get my '48 F1 on the road to replace the '90. Maybe next spring.

Not hot rods...mild customs I guess...and they've all been about 40 years old (both '64's). The Elky was before the Cutlass, the only cars I've ever owned.

  15. I drive my '56 daily, but I live in California. My hat's off to you guys from PA and Canada and elsewhere in the cold belt. True Rulers, IMO.

  16. My Hup is seeing a lot of asphalt lately. I leave it at home on rainy days though...no side windows yet.

I only have hot rods for my use, although my wife has a late model (2001 Crown Victoria). Usually try to alternate between the 40 Ford coupe and the 41 Ford pickup, although the truck has been wounded in the driveway for some time (got to get after that...). I guess it makes up for the time when the coupe was on injured reserve, and the truck had to handle the commute. The 29 roadster is my backup and adventure car.

Driving old cars is sometimes an aggravation, but I wouldn't have it any other way. It is nicer when the accessories (stereo and air in the closed cars) work. I know about that because I have pushed fixing that stuff down the priority list more than once......

  19. Ok, that didn't work. lemme do some figuring out and I'll try again later.

K&R, your Cutlass reminds me of my '65 Olds I had. It has brightened my day. She used to be my daily driver and I wish I had never given her up.

Yep, I've certainly been there. Workin' on the old car is a lot less fun when yer fixin' somthin' that broke today and you gotta get it back together tonite so you can go to work in the morning! Much more fun to IMPROVE your ride instead of just fixin' stuff that broke. Personally, I've had my share of those "one step forward, 3 steps back" deals... but it's all worth it.

And I did find a picture I had here at work, it's a rerun from my intro, but here goes...

You guys have seen the 70 Chevelle. I have a 93 Nissan 4x4 that only gets fired up to haul shit that won't fit in the Chevelle. Also occasionally go hunting or fishing with it. Before the Chevelle, I had a 31 roadster for a couple years as my daily. Stock 40hp banger and mechanical brakes in that one. The Chevelle is a bit quicker getting around. [IMG]
It's never seen the inside of the garage (That's for projects) and goes everywhere I do as long as the snow is lower than the headlights. It's sitting outside work right now patiently waiting to head for Bonneville when I get off tomorrow night. I know it's a muscle car to a lot of you, but it beats driving a damned SUV or Honda to work. [IMG]

  25. I dont know if this quailifies but I drive my 55 all the time on the weekends. I have a company truck, so I take advantage during the week.

  28. Now that I sold my 40 Chevy truck, I'm back to driving my new car... the 59. This picture was taken on Feb 15, 1997... the day we fired up the new 348 after I blew up the old one. I still have it all except now it's black. Basically been my daily for 6 out of 9 years...
