Making the move to England and trying to ship my 1928 Model A, does anyone have any advice, referral to good movers, or possible ideas for how to do this without paying to much? Got a referral to a shipper but they were asking for 8 grand.

Everyone who ships cars and parts over here to England, uses Cal Shipping at Stanton California. It would be better if you shared a box with someone else and split the costs. If you post your situation on the nsra uk forum, there are guys on there who regularily ship out of there, and I`m sure they would be able to sort you out. They can explain the paperwork etc, as well.

hope this helps, and I`ll keep an eye out for you this summer.

$8K? Nah...they are taking the piss, mate. I imported a Tudor from Chicago to England this year for about $3K, so you can use that as a guide. Cal Shipping are good, as are Kingstown Shipping who I used.

I can personally recommend them. They kept me informed about my A throughout the shipping process and dealt with all the paperwork at customs. Good people.

Whereabouts in the UK are you coming to?

The military will move one car for you for free...

Otherwise, do as suggested and use one of the ones the Limeys use - or post on NSRA UK website as suggested.

If you can share a container with one of the UK rodders, it'll be loads cheaper. When I researched it a couple years ago, a 40' container was only 1/3 more than a 20' container...cheaper for both of you.

The challenge then becomes getting the paperwork set up for a duty-free/concession vehicle from TMO at the other end. You'll likely have to sort through that well before you try to collect the vehicle from the port - which is the other problem. If the military ships it, it goes to Brandon - 3 miles from Lakenheath. If you ship it, you'll have to drive/train to Portsmouth or Hull (maybe Ipswich/Norwich if you can find a shipper that ships there) to pick up your car and deal with Her Majesty's Customs office directly...Brandon VPC does all that for you.
