I jsut saw these randomly on google images... couldnt find much else on them... not that I looked that hard... just thought I`d show em off.. I present... Glowing tyres..
These would make it much easier to change a flat tire in the dark. I prefer to call them 'lightwalls'.
They had a set on the Golden Sahara when it was built, there is a thread on these tires and the car that had them on it in here somewhere. Just do a search.....
I thought they might have been off the Sahara... I do love that car.. just haven't read up much on it yet... I can only obsess over one cl***ic car at a time..
In the 60's Sears offered a whitewall that was reflective. I had a set on my 57. Looked like truck reflectors at night.
The car in the pic is a English Ford ( Capri Cl***ic ), so that means they are 13" I bet the Sahara used a bigger dia...
I would think tires throwing off that much light ,,would cause issue on teh road ,,distaction and all
When I was a kid I saw a gold T-bird pace car turn into the main gate at the Indy Speedway, and the tires were glowing a gold color and the t-bird was gold also--a trippy sight. I have never seen anything about these tires before, I was beginning to think I had imagined it.
Looks like a thermal image with a b&w superimposed... Cool concept! Although I would prefer the silcone rubber compounds that do not wear out...
Years ago I talked to someone who built "pimp" cars back in the 70's up in Detroit. He told me about having custom made tires for some of the cars he built. I remember one set was pink [yes, pink rubber] and another set was transparent with lights behind the tires that shown thru. LOL, kinda funny now, but I'll bet it was the **** back in the days of bad acid trips and bell bottoms
Couldn't be worse than those five hundred zillion canlde power blue tinted lights some of these jerks have on there cars nowadays. I bet the DONK crowd would love those in 28", playa!
How long until 70s rides are traditional? I can't wait for the pimp ride revival ! Especially with pink tyres.
Once again, I find myself a few years ahead of the curve... I'm finalizing the deal on an early 70's Ford Country Squire "woodgrain sided" wagon. I cant remember the exact prices, but I bout **** a brick when he told me how much those pink tires cost. I believe they were in the $500 each range!
Tires ?? hell get the whole damn car. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/MEyz4y8eM5k&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/MEyz4y8eM5k&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
